Patent number: 10295517Abstract: The present invention provides a means of greatly reducing interferences from mercury vapor, UV-absorbing compounds and water vapor in the measurement of ozone by UV absorbance. A heated graphite scrubber destroys greater than 99% of ozone passing through it while reducing biases from typical atmospheric UV-absorbing interferents by large factors compared to conventional ozone scrubbers. Substitution of a heated graphite scrubber in place of traditional ozone scrubbers such as hopcalite, metal oxides and heated silver scrubbers, results in a more accurate measurement of ozone by reducing the responses to UV-absorbing interferences and water vapor. The heated graphite scrubber also may be used in combination with other ozone sensors, such as electrochemical and HMOS sensors, to provide a reference measurement with ozone selectively removed and thus greatly reduce contributions from interfering species in those measurement devices as well.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 2015Date of Patent: May 21, 2019Assignee: LUDLUM MEASUREMENTS, INC.Inventors: John W. Patent number: 10196678Abstract: Embodiments provide detection systems and methods for detecting the presence of a nucleic acid in one or more samples. In a detection method, a sample and one or more nucleic acid probes are introduced into a channel. A first potential difference is applied across the length of the channel in a first direction, and a first electrical property value is detected. Subsequently, a second potential difference is applied across the length of the channel in a second opposite direction, and a second electrical property value is detected. Presence or absence of a nucleic acid in the channel is determined based on a comparison between the first and second electrical property values.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2014Date of Patent: February 5, 2019Assignees: ALVEO Technologies Inc., The Regents of the University of CaliforniaInventors: Sumita Pennathur, Peter Joseph Crisalli, Ronald Phillip Chiarello

Patent number: 10189002Abstract: A flow-through electric arc system includes a chamber within an insulated sleeve having an anode at one end of the insulated sleeve and a cathode at a distal end of the insulated sleeve. Fluid flows from an inlet of the chamber, through the insulated sleeve where it is exposed to an electric arc formed between the anode and cathode, and then flows out of an outlet of the chamber. By way of increasing the flow rate of the fluid, bi-products that are released from a reaction of the fluid to the electric arc are flushed by the fluid and at least some of the bi-products are precluded from accumulating on either of the anode, cathode, or both.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2014Date of Patent: January 29, 2019Assignee: Magnegas CorporationInventors: Christopher Lynch, Scott Marton, Jack Michael Armstrong, Mike Rodriguez, Richard Conz
