Abstract: A computer-based method for encoding and decoding quantized sequences in Wyner-Ziv coding of video, bi-partite graph is used in an iterative process. The method takes as input to an encoder a sequence of quantized data from a finite alphabet, the sequence comprising a video frame. Another sequence of data, decoded from the prior video frame, is input to a decoder. A statistical model describing the statistical relationship between the quantized input sequence to the encoder and the input sequence to the decoder is input to both the encoder and the decoder. A minimum field size is estimated from the statistical model at the encoder and the decoder separately.

  • Patent number: 7999845
Abstract: In an electronic endoscope system, an RF signal is produced through quadrature modulation of a picture signal that is representative of an image taken through an electronic endoscope. When control signals are entered by an operator through a control section of the electronic endoscope, a data superimposing section superimposes the entered control signals on the RF signal in horizontal scanning intervals within a vertical blanking interval. The RF signal having the control signals superimposed thereon is sent as an electric wave of a single frequency band to a processor. In the processor, a data analyzer carries out sampling to extract the entered control signals if they are superimposed on the picture signal, and analyzes the contents of the entered control signals. Based on the results of analysis, a CPU controls respective components of the signal processor.

  • Patent number: 7961790
Abstract: The method for encoding and/or decoding video signals, includes the operations of generating at a transmitter side a multiple descriptions vector associated to a pixel values vector of the video signals and decoding at a receiver side available descriptions vector for reconstructing the pixel values vector. The operation of generating a multiple descriptions vector includes the steps of obtaining the pixel values vector by selecting a group of pixels in a picture of the video signal and applying an encoding matrix to the pixel values vector. The decoding operation includes the step of applying a decoding matrix that is in an inverse relationship with the encoding matrix to the available descriptions vector to obtain the pixel values vector.

  • Patent number: 7948515
Abstract: A dual-camera 3-D rig has a support, a first camera with a first lens mounted to the support in a stationary position, a structural member with a curve affixed to the support adjustable over a range of positions to cause the curve to rotate relative to the axis of the structural member, and a second camera with a second lens slidably mounted to the structural member so it is free to move along the curve to vary interaxial spacing between the two cameras while the convergence distance between the two cameras is varied by adjustment of the curved structural member over a range of positions. Pinhole lenses are used and a mirror is positioned along an axis of the first lens in a position such that a reflected image of a first camera entrance pupil is at the height and longitudinal position of the second camera entrance pupil.

  • Patent number: 7948516
Abstract: According to a related art for evaluating the position accuracy of heaters with respect to the plate, it is necessary to attach an energizing electrode to the heaters, and energize the heaters for a predetermined period to heat the entire plate, before measuring the temperature distribution map. Therefore, there is a problem in that several tens of minutes are required until the temperature distribution map can be measured. As the plate becomes larger, the time required for energizing the heaters to heat the entire plate becomes longer. A technique for evaluating the position accuracy of heaters with respect to the plate, without executing a process for energizing the heaters to heat the plate is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7944465
Abstract: This invention enables the construction of equipment for reproduction of static and moving (live) 3-dimensional stereo representations (3-dimensional display), and is capable of recording and transmitting stereo representations of 3-dimensional objects (scenes). The equipment of the present invention provides to the user comfortable conditions for viewing a volumetric representation without eye strain. The viewing of such 3-dimensional images does not require the use of any supplementary means such as glasses, does not drastically limit the position of the viewer with respect to the display, and allows simultaneous viewing of the 3-dimensional display by many viewers from a sufficiently wide field of view.

  • Patent number: 7936827
Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a receiving device and a control unit. The receiving device includes a plurality of processing unit containing an interface unit. The control unit includes an input source detection module, a transfer instruction detection module and a power-saving control module. The input source detection module detects an input source necessary for execution of a video reproduction program. The transfer instruction detection module detects a video data transfer instruction from the video reproduction program. When the video data transfer instruction is detected, the power-saving control module enables some of the processing units except the interface unit and sets the others of the processing units in power-saving mode. The enabled processing units receive a video signal from the input source detected by the input source detection module and convert the video signal into video data of given format.

  • Patent number: 7929601
Abstract: A method for encoding and decoding media signals, includes the operations of generating at a transmitting side multiple descriptions associated to data of the media signals through a downsampling operation performed on the data, and decoding at a receiving side the multiple descriptions for reconstructing the data by merging the multiple descriptions. The operation of generating multiple descriptions further includes the operations of obtaining a spectral representation of the data, including bands associated to different ranges, the bands being obtained by a suitable quantization operation and including at least one highly quantized band, that is subjected to a higher degree of quantization. A scrambling operation is performed on the spectral representation by moving the at least one highly quantized band to a different range, the scrambling operation being performed prior the downsampling operation. In decoding, a descrambling operation is performed before the merging operation on the multiple descriptions.

  • Patent number: 7848427
Abstract: For each pixel in an operation block, an effective pixel determining unit sets a predetermined pixel difference (threshold value) on a time-base pixel difference. When the time-base pixel difference is less than the set predetermined pixel difference, it is determined that the pixel contributes to (or are effective in) motion vector detection, and uses the pixel in the gradient method in the case of performing motion vector detection. When the time-base pixel difference is not less than the set predetermined pixel difference, it is determined that the pixel is regarded as having a possibility to generate irregularity in movement, and the pixel is excluded from the gradient operation in the case of performing motion vector detection. The present invention is applicable to a signal processing apparatus for performing frame frequency conversion from a 24 P signal to a 60 P signal.

  • Patent number: 7813430
Abstract: In an apparatus that converts (compresses) motion image data, the amount of motion of a subject in a block of motion image data is detected, and spatial decimation is performed in a mode in which sampling point positions are fixed or in a mode in which sampling point positions are shifted, depending on the detected amount of motion. When predicted image quality corresponding to the moving speed of a subject detected by analyzing blocks is lower than a predetermined threshold level, spatial decimation is performed in the mode in sampling point positions are shifted such that the moving speed of the subject is virtually changed to a value at which a super resolution effect occurs, thereby achieving data conversion without causing significant degradation in image quality.
