Abstract: A housing has an internally-threaded opening that opens through an external surface. A support has external threads that engage the internal threads. Radiation-emitting structure on the support emits a beam of radiation that propagates to a location remote from the housing. At the location, the beam has a width that is a function of the position of the support within the housing. According to a different aspect, a housing has an internally-threaded opening that opens through an external surface, the housing including thermally-conductive material with the internal threads thereon. A support has external threads that engage the internal threads, the support including thermally-conductive material with the external threads thereon. Radiation-emitting structure is provided on the support, and the thermally-conductive material of the support carries heat from the radiation-emitting structure to the external threads.

  • Patent number: 7597470
Abstract: A plurality of display portions are illuminated in different colors using a light source of a single type and a single light guide plate. A light source (220) has a light emitting element for emitting blue light, and a red fluorescent substance which is excited by blue light to generate red light, thereby emitting violet light (L1) as a whole. The violet light (L1) enters a side surface of a light guide plate (210) and is emitted from an upper surface (211) and a lower surface (212) as violet light (L1-1) and (L1-2), respectively. A green fluorescent substance is provided in a fluorescent film (230). The light (L2) obtained after the violet light (L1-1) passes through the fluorescent film (230), becomes white light because green color component light generated from the fluorescent substance is mixed with the violet light (L1-1). On the other hand, on a lower surface side, the violet light L1-2 is used as illuminating light.

  • Patent number: 7588347
Abstract: This invention provides a lighting fixture for use in low-ceiling applications and/or outdoor environments, such as parking garages that allows for the use of more-efficient lighting sources, such as fluorescent lamps, with more-even distribution of light along the sides of the fixture so that the surrounding space is fully and efficiently illuminated. Two elongated light sources are mounted upon opposing sides, and surrounded by a pair of respective side reflectors. The side reflectors direct the light of the two light sources in a generally sideward and somewhat-downward direction. The lower portion of the side reflectors collectively define an overall wide angle and each lower portion completely overlies a respective one of the side light sources mounted above. A third light source can be located centrally, beneath the lower portions to provide downward light, which is further reflected generally downwardly by the wide angled lower portions.
