  • Patent number: 11486248
Abstract: Drilling fluid can be monitored throughout a drill site and at various stages of drilling operations. The drilling fluid may be analyzed to identify components that make the drilling fluid as well as the volume of each of the components, The volume of each component can be used, for example, to determine a percentage of water in a water-based drilling fluid and the average specific gravity of the water-based drilling fluid without further decomposition of the drilling fluid. The percentage of water and the average specific gravity can then be used to modify the drilling fluid, in real-time, based on conditions in the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 11473391
Abstract: Example apparatuses and methods are described for providing a swell packer apparatus having a vulcanized non-swelling outer layer with a pattern cut into it to expose an inner swellable sealing element. In an example embodiment, the swell packer includes a mandrel having a substantially cylindrical outer surface. A sealing element extends radially around the mandrel and a non-swelling layer circumferentially covers an outer surface of the sealing element. One or more grooves are cut in the non-swelling layer to expose a portion of the outer surface of the sealing element. The non-swelling layer is configured to prevent fluid communication between a swelling fluid disposed outside of the non-swelling layer and portions of the outer surface of the sealing element covered by the non-swelling layer.

  • Patent number: 11459868
Abstract: An apparatus, method, and system for multi-well ranging and planning of a second injector well in the presence of a first injector well in close proximity to a producer well. The method includes generating a three-well forward simulation model using survey data for a producer well, survey data for a first injector well, survey data for a first section of a second injector well, a producer well casing property profile, and a formation resistivity parameter. The method provides for determining the offset between the true magnetic sensor position in the BHA and a planned depth position. The method determines ranging distance and direction of the drilling well to target well using the offset between the true magnetic sensor position and the first planned depth position. The method helps to adjust directional drilling parameter to achieve constant ranging distance between drilling well and target well.

  • Patent number: 11377921
Abstract: The present concept is a method of slot recovery for the oil industry. The method involves running an internal cutter down the production casing to cut through a preselected number of existing casings at predetermined depths before drilling around the outermost preselected casing with a hollow drill bit. The hollow drill bit drills through the preslected outermost casing cement to the predetermined depth before a removal tool attached to the inside of the production casing is used to remove the existing casings to the predetermined depth. These steps are repeated using appropriately sized hollow drill bits and casings to drill around the next preselected outermost casings to the next predetermined depth, continuously removing the existing casings until all desired existing casings are removed.
