  • Patent number: 6110144
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus and method for limiting the pressure of inflation fluid injected into a drug delivery catheter balloon, while permitting continuous and uninterrupted flow of such fluid to the balloon. The apparatus includes an elongated hollow housing having a fluid entrance, a fluid exit and a bore extending therebetween which forms an interconnecting chamber and passageway. A piston and piston shaft assembly is disposed inside the housing and is longitudinally movable within the chamber. The piston and piston shaft assembly is biased against the fluid pressure of the fluid entering the housing by a spring. The piston shaft has a distal end which extends toward the passageway inlet. As the incoming fluid pressure increases and approaches the predetermined maximum pressure level of the apparatus, the piston shaft distal end moves within the chamber against the biasing force of the spring toward a position adjacent the passageway inlet.

  • Patent number: 6102896
Abstract: The present invention is a single use injector device for injecting parenteral medications which operates by hand force. The injector device has a plunger section and a base. As hand force is applied to a moving portion of the plunger section, break tabs or a snap ring resist its motion toward the patient's skin surface. The break tabs or snap ring release abruptly as the hand force reaches a snap point. The motion of the moving portion then drives the medication through the skin surface and into the body of the patient. If the medication is in liquid form, the actual injection may be carried out through a hollow needle attached to the plunger section. Alternatively, the suddenly increased pressure of the medication at the snap point may be used to form a liquid jet for needleless injection. Part or all of the medication may be contained in a glass needle which dissolves in the body after injection. The injector device requires little training to use, reduces perceived pain, and improves injection safety.

  • Patent number: 6093171
Abstract: A safety syringe that is characterized by that a plunger thereof has an elastic stopper fitted around a neck portion of the plunger near a front end thereof. When the plunger is fully pushed forward in a barrel of the syringe, the stopper slightly deforms to allow the plunger to move forward a little further, so that all medical liquid in the barrel is injected into a patient's body. The safety syringe is also characterized by that an elastic catch hook is provided at the front end of the plunger and a catch rib is provided around a rear inner end of a locking tip that is fitted to a front end of the barrel for a needle to connect thereto. When the plunger is further pushed forward in the barrel, the catch hook is moved beyond the catch rib and retained in the locking tip by the catch rib. Whereby, simply pulling the plunger backward could directly pull the locking tip and a used needle backward into the barrel to avoid injuring others.

  • Patent number: 6090077
Abstract: A tamperproof retractable non-reusable syringe has a one piece hollow outer body with a barrel for a slidable plunger, a transition zone and a smaller diameter nose portion. An elongated needle holder and spring combination is installable from the rear of the outer body, guided into the nose portion and held by cooperating inwardly and outwardly facing surfaces oriented in the direction of retraction at the most constricted part of the transition zone where the nose begins. The plunger has an opening with a dislodgable stopper for receiving parts of the retraction mechanism. The stopper and the head of the needle holder are of significantly reduced diameter from the injection fluid chamber to resist blowing out prematurely. In one embodiment the head of the needle holder is surrounded by a separable retainer member which is slidingly removed by contact with the tip of the plunger after the stopper is mostly or fully removed to avoid cumulation of force required for retraction after the injection.

  • Patent number: 6090066
Abstract: An injection site for passing a needle into an enclosed space surrounded by a wall, typically defined by a tubular section incorporated in a tubular set. An aperture in the wall communicates between the enclosed space and the exterior, having an elastic, needle-pierceable member such as a plug occluding the aperture. The plug is exposed to the exterior on one side and defines a route of needle access through the plug and aperture to the enclosed space. A first flange is positioned adjacent to the plug and extends transversely outwardly from the plug. The first flange carries a second flange, which extends longitudinally relative to the plug, and is spaced transversely outwardly from the plug to define a catch area for needles, which catch area surrounds the plug.

  • Patent number: 6090088
Abstract: A phantom mare includes a housing having inlet and outlet ends with a bore therebetween. A bladder surrounds the bore. Upon injection of a warmed fluid into the housing, the fluid is captured between the bladder and bore surface to distend and warm the bladder. Upon stallion penetration in the outlet end the discharged semen is directed to a collection container at the outlet end. A valve assembly regulates a user discharge of the fluid from the housing so that the distended bladder returns to a non-distended position to preclude irritation on the stallion upon withdrawal. The removal of heat of the discharged fluid from the housing reduces the possibility of damage to the deposited semen.
