    Abstract: Animal and seed based triglycerides are oils used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, animal feed, energy generation, etc. These triglycerides or glycerol esters are a mixture of triglycerides and free fatty esters (FFA) along with unsaponifiables and gums (MIU). FFA may range from very low, 1% or less, to more than 40% in some rendered animal oils. Corn oil from the wet or dry process of ethanol production may have from 7 to 15% FFA. The varying amount of FFA presents numerous process issues for downstream users of these oils especially in the production of biodiesel, fatty acid methyl ester (FAME). FFA about 1 or 2% requires esterification as well as transesterification for the production of FAME. What is needed is a method to perform Glycerolysis. This disclosure describes an improved catalyst system as well as process equipment and operating conditions to allow economical commercialization of Glycerolysis.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to the production of biodiesel and alkyl esters by the transesterification of triglyceride esters, with alcohols in heterogeneous phase in the presence of heterogeneous catalysts, with yields higher than 80%, at a temperature from 0 to 300° C., residence time from 20 minutes to 20 h, space velocity of 0.1 to 10 h?1, pressure of 25-100 kg/cm2 (24.5-98.07 bar), methanol/oil molar ratio of 10 to 40 and catalyst concentration of 0.001 to 20 weight % based on tri-, di- or monoglyceride. The method produces biodiesel and alkyl esters by transesterification of tri-, di- or mono-glycerides, from palm, jatropha, castor, soybean and sunflower oils, wherein the alcohoxyls R1O, R2O and R3O of the glycerides are C1 to C24 and a C1-C4 alcohol, such as methanol, in an alcohol:oil ratio from 3:1 to 50:1.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a new solvent-free process for simultaneously obtaining phospholipids-enriched krill oil and neutral lipid enriched-krill oil containing DHA and EPA poly-unsaturated fatty acids and astaxanthin and krill meal. The process includes preheating fresh minced krill followed by melting of the lipids using live steam injection to obtain a press liquid and a solid fraction; centrifuging the press liquid to obtain a phospholipids-enriched emulsion phase; evaporating the water of the emulsion using a thin film evaporator to obtain phospholipids-enriched krill oil; centrifuging the resulting decanter liquid to obtain neutral lipids enriched krill oil and stickwater.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for preparing glyceride type polyunsaturated fatty acids. The method comprises: firstly mixing a basic catalyst with glycerol or a glyceride uniformly; then adding the mixture to a polyunsaturated fatty acid material slowly, and carrying out an esterification reaction under certain conditions to obtain glyceride type polyunsaturated fatty acids, wherein the basic catalyst is a lower aliphatic alcohol sodium/potassium or a solution thereof. The procedure of the process is simple, has mild reaction conditions, short reaction time, high yield and good quality of the obtained product.
