  • Patent number: 9924183
Abstract: The emerging High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard achieves significant performance improvement over H.264/AVC standard at a cost of much higher complexity. An H.264/AVC to HEVC transcoder is described for multi-core processors implementing Wavefront Parallel Processing (WPP) and SIMD acceleration, along with expedited motion estimation (ME) and mode decision (MD) by utilizing information extracted from the input H.264/AVC stream. Experiments using standard HEVC test bitstreams show that the described transcoder may achieve a 70× speed up over the HEVC HM S.1 reference software (including H.264 encoding) at very small rate distortion (RD) performance loss.

  • Patent number: 9813707
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for data pruning for video compression using example-based super resolution are provided. A method and apparatus for encoding is provided in which patches of video are extracted from input video, grouped together using a clustering method, and representative patches are packed into patch frames. The original video is downsized and sent either along with, or in addition to, the patch frames. At a decoder, the method and apparatus provided extract patches from the patch frames and create a patch library. The regular video frames are upsized and the low resolution patches are replaced by patches from the patch library by searching the library using the patches in the decoded regular frames as keywords. If there are no appropriate patches, no replacement is made. A post processing procedure is used to enhance the spatiotemporal smoothness of the recovered video.

  • Patent number: 9813710
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for encoding/decoding a video using a split layer. The video encoding/decoding method generates an encoded image data by encoding a current block partitioned into a plurality of subblocks, generates an encoded partition information data by encoding partition information of the current block, generates a bitstream including the encoded image data and the encoded partition information data, and then reconstructs the video image from the generated bitstream. According to the present disclosure, when encoding a high resolution video with variable sized blocks, various block shapes may be used for the encoding, and efficient encoding and decoding of the block partition information can improve the compression efficiency.

  • Patent number: 9794555
Abstract: A sampling filter process for scalable video coding provides correction for phase shift occurring during downsampling. The process uses video data obtained from an encoder or decoder process of a base layer (BL) in a multi-layer system using adaptive phase shifting based on downsampling to improve quality. Examples of a multi-layers are MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) and High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). The re-sampled BL data can be used in higher layers in a scalable video coding system. For example, the re-sampled or upsampled data can be used as a basis for prediction of the higher resolution video data.

  • Patent number: 9756327
Abstract: A device may include a video coder to determine an equivalent quantization parameter (QP) for a decoded block of video data using a quantization matrix for the decoded block of video data, determine deblocking parameters based on the determined equivalent QP, and deblock an edge of the decoded block based on the determined deblocking parameters. In particular, the video coder may determine equivalent QPs for two neighboring blocks defining a common edge, and deblock the common edge based on the equivalent QPs. The video coder may determine deblocking parameters, such as ? and tc values, based on the equivalent QPs. The video coder may then deblock the common edge based on the deblocking parameters, e.g., determine whether to deblock the common edge, determine whether to apply a strong or a weak filter to the common edge, and determine a width (in number of pixels) for a weak filter.

  • Patent number: 9738223
Abstract: A method for dynamically registering a graphic upon a cropped image obtained from a camera device includes capturing an original image obtained from the camera device. Intrinsic calibration information for the camera device, extrinsic information for the camera device and vehicle information are monitored. The cropped image is generated based on cropping parameters to exclude undesirable content from the original image. The intrinsic calibration information is adjusted based on a relationship to the cropping parameters. The graphic is dynamically registered upon the cropped image based on the adjusted intrinsic calibration information for the camera device, the monitored extrinsic information for the camera device and the monitored vehicle information.

  • Patent number: 9661333
Abstract: An image processor includes an encoder that performs encoding including quantization on an image signal and a controller that controls a quantization parameter for quantization. The controller determines a quantization parameter of a currently target macroblock as an increase or decrease from a reference value, and determines the increase or decrease based on a difference between a target amount of code for a predetermined number of macroblocks fewer than a total number of macroblocks within one frame and a generated amount of code of the predetermined number of macroblocks processed immediately before. The controller can further determine the increase or decrease, based on pixel information of the currently target macroblock such as an activity evaluation value.

  • Patent number: 9088769
Abstract: Methods and devices for reconstructing coefficient levels from a bitstream of encoded video data for a coefficient group in a transform unit. Parity hiding is used to signal the parity of the upper left coefficient of the coefficient group. Based on the parity, either the significant coefficient flag or the greater-than-one flag is encoded/decoded for that coefficient, but not both. The greater-than-one flag is encoded/decoded irrespective of whether a maximum number of greater-than-one flags have been encoded/decoded with respect to the other coefficients in the coefficient group.
