  • Patent number: 5326959
Abstract: A computer-controlled funds processing and remittance processing system, for use by individual, business and other bank customers. The system eliminates the problems associated with batch processing of remittances and remittance advices in lockbox systems. Each participating bank receives, from each participating customer, identifying information regarding bills that are to be paid for that customer with the automated system. After initially collecting all necessary data regarding a participating customer's bills, the bank produces a paper form, which is manually completed by the customer, on a periodic basis. The customer manually inserts the amount to be paid for each bill being processed by the system, opposite pre-printed indicia indicating the identity of the payee. The resulting customer payment instruction document is delivered to the bank, and is optically scanned, to read the specific amounts to be paid for the respective bills.

  • Patent number: 5296689
Abstract: An optical scanning system including an aiming system which is particularly suitable for handheld scanners where the outgoing light is scanned over a desired angle in a scan plane. The aiming system includes a light source generating an optical beam along an outgoing optical path toward an object to be scanned; a detector for detecting light reflected off the object; an oscillating scan mirror in the outgoing optical path directing light toward the object along a scan plane; and a diffractive optical module positioned in the outgoing optical path adjacent the scan mirror, the diffractive optical module having a pair of diffractive optical elements separated by an aperture, the diffractive optical elements positioned on either side of an aperture along the scan plane, each diffractive optical element de-scanning the portion of the optical beam passing therethrough to form an aiming light beam.

  • Patent number: 5281799
Abstract: A card assembly permits xerographic printing of information cards, such as identification or authorization cards. The card assembly comprises a carrier sheet having a cavity. An information card is detachably bonded within the cavity. The foregoing card assembly can be passed through any conventional xerographic printer so that the information card can be printed with high quality xerographic print. The card assembly may be forwarded to the designated cardholder as an attractive package. Furthermore, a xerographic printer or other apparatus is provided with a magnetic encoder which is adapted to encode a magnetic strip situated on the card assembly passing through the xerographic printer or apparatus. Finally, a bar code may be disposed on the card assembly for encoding information regarding the card assembly and/or information card. The magnetic strip may be encoded in accordance with information decoded from the bar code.

  • Patent number: 5270523
Abstract: For mounting a magnetic stripe card reader's magnetic head, a plate spring made from a thin metal sheet having two opposite fixing wings bilaterally extending outwards from a square frame and longitudinally aligned with each other, wherein said square frame has two raised portions on a bottom edge thereof longitudinally aligned with the center line of said two opposite fixing wings and stopped against a magnetic head held therein. By means of a line contact, the magnetic head is automatically rotated to the best reading position against a magnetic stripe card to be read.
