  • Patent number: 5237895
Abstract: A machine tool for machining contains a tool attachment (9) to which a tool holder (7) for a lathe shaft (10) can be secured. The shaft (10) is mechanically secured in the tool holder (7), which means that vibrations occur when long shafts (10) are used. The invention reduces any vibration by arranging a tubular cavity (4) inside the wall surrounding the shaft (10) in the holder, and filling said cavity with a medium which is subjected to pressure so that the tool (10) is clamped with a force greater than that which can be achieved by mechanical means.

  • Patent number: 5236292
Abstract: An apparatus for precisely locating a workpiece along a Y-axis of a milling machine worktable includes a fixture body having a generally rectangular cross section and at least one generally planar reference surface. The body has three longitudinally spaced apart apertures formed therethrough for retaining bolts. A nut threadably engages the center bolt and cooperates with an inverted T-shaped slot formed in the workpiece supporting surface of the worktable to clamp the body to the table. The body has a pair of spaced apart channels formed therein each with a longitudinal axis generally perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the body, the channels being located at associated ones of the other two apertures. A foot having a pedestal portion is located in each channel for engaging a corresponding slot formed in the worktable. The feet are formed with a width corresponding to a width of an opening of the slot in which they are located.

  • Patent number: 5234296
Abstract: The present invention is a tool holder for receiving an endmill or similar tool. The tool holder includes a shank portion adapted to fit into the spindle of a machine, and a closed end collet integrally formed with the shank portion. The collet includes an axial bore for receiving the tool and a plurality of resilient collet segments for gripping the tool. The collet segments are separated by a plurality of axially extending slots which terminate inwardly from the forward end of a collet. A continuous tie ring extends around the forward end of a collet and joins the plurality of collet segments together. The continuous tie ring provides for increased radial stiffness at the forward end of the collet which improves accuracy and repeatability of tool location. A lock nut threads onto the collet to collapse the collet segments radially inwardly to grip the tool.

  • Patent number: 5226869
Abstract: For changing the tool disk connected detachably and rotatably to the housing of a tool turret, a work-locating fixture is provided. The tool disk can be moved out of its work setting in which it is coupled with the drive shaft for rotation by a rotary drive. The tool disk movement is in the axial direction of the drive shaft away from the housing until the tool disk reaches transfer position. The drive shaft and a tie rod coupled to the drive shaft are then rotated by the rotary drive out of a connected setting into a detached setting. In the detached setting, the connection between the tie rod, which tie rod is slidable in its axial position relative to the housing and the tool disk, is disconnected, so that the tie rod can then be lifted out of the tool disk.

  • Patent number: 5224716
Abstract: In a workpiece support for use with a laser beam machine tool, in which the workpiece is rotated about an axis tiltable through 90.degree. or more to either side of a vertical condition, the workpiece is held by a chuck driven through a right-angle speed reducer by a servomotor. The chuck, reducer and motor are all supported on a shaft rotatably mounted in bearings on a frame. The shaft is coupled to a disc having angle markings and lockable at discrete rotational positions on the frame. Fine adjustment of the rotational position of the shaft relative to the disc is effected by engagement of an offset protrusion on the end of the shaft by a screw-shifted operating member on the disc. Two such operating members are provided in opposed relationship on opposite sides of the protrusion so that they can be used to lock the shaft and disc securely together.

  • Patent number: 5214989
Abstract: A quick setting and release machine tool post having a body block structure forming a pair or partial dove tail tool mounts externally thereof. The body block also forms a pair of expander receptacles each receiving a dove tail expander element in movable assembly therewith. A rotary actuator located within an actuator receptacle defined by the body block forms oppositely directed intersecting eccentric cam surfaces that are disposed for driving engagement with respective dove tail expander elements depending upon the direction of rotation of the actuator element. The dove tail expander elements are selectively linearly movable to establish tight locking engagement within the dove tail receptacles of tool holders and are retractable to release the tool holders for replacement or repositioning. The design and operational characteristics of the tool post mechanism minimizes wear of component parts and promotes long service life.
