  • Patent number: 9308921
Abstract: A system is provided for use with, a wheeled vehicle. The system includes a media reservoir capable of holding a tractive material that includes particulates; a nozzle in fluid communication with the media reservoir; and a media valve in fluid communication with the media reservoir and the nozzle. The media valve is controllable between a first state in which the tractive material flows through the media valve and to the nozzle, and a second state in which the tractive material is prevented from flowing to the nozzle. In the first state, the nozzle receives the tractive material from the media reservoir and directs the tractive material to a contact surface such that the tractive material impacts the contact surface that is spaced from a wheel/surface interface. The system can modify the adhesion or the traction capability of the contact surface with regard to a subsequently contacting wheel.

  • Patent number: 9290192
Abstract: A controller for a spring wing on a frog that utilizes a floating piston rod carrying a fixed piston valve and a free-moving piston head is provided. When the piston rod is actuated by the opening movement of the spring wing, the piston valve separates from the piston head briefly, allowing oil to flow through the piston head in a relatively unrestricted manner. The piston head is spring biased towards the piston valve; upon contact between the piston head and the piston valve, the oil flow through the piston head stops, helping to hold the spring wing in the open position. When the spring wing begins to close, the adjustable oil flow through the controller allows the piston rod to move at a controlled rate, thereby controlling the closure rate of the spring wing.

  • Patent number: 9266543
Abstract: A train protection device, which decides a position of an own train on track by using GPS satellites, includes: a GPS reception unit; a tachogenerator unit; a track-information storage unit; and a position decision unit. The position decision unit decides the position of the own train based on the GPS signal, the reception state value, the running distance from the reference position, the current speed, and the information of a track on which the own train runs. When the reception state value is equal to or larger than a threshold, the position decision unit decides a position as a current train position by adding, with respect to a forward direction of the track on which the own train runs, a correction value.
