  • Patent number: 11266453
Abstract: A method of shaping a bone screw with an automated device having a CNC unit includes rotating a blank coupled to a spindle about an axis defined by a coordinate system of the CNC unit, advancing a cutting tool proximally through an exterior of the blank at a speed to form a helical thread along a shaft, and reducing the speed to provide a variable, proximally decreasing pitch along at least a portion of the shaft. A first cutting tool is automatically transitioned toward disengagement from the blank when 1) a relative axial position between the first cutting tool and the blank coincides with a first coordinate of a predetermined location, and 2) a relative rotational position between the first cutting tool and the blank coincides with a second coordinate of the predetermined location. The first coordinate is along the axis, the second coordinate is an angular position about the axis, and the first and second coordinates are defined by the coordinate system.

  • Patent number: 11259872
Abstract: A method and system are provided to intraoperatively adjust the dimensions of a pre-operatively planned implant cavity to improve implant fit in a bone. The method includes obtaining a preoperative image data set of the bone. A surgical plan is generated using the image data set and/or a three-dimensional (3-D) bone model of the patient's bone generated from the image data set. Intraoperatively, the patient's bone is exposed and registered to the surgical plan and a computer assisted surgical system. The computer assisted surgical system having a cutting tip and a force sensor for sensing actual forces exerted on the cutting tip as an initial cut is created on the bone at a first bone region. Based on the difference between the actual cutting force and the expected cutting force in the plan, the dimensions of the cavity are adjusted accordingly.

  • Patent number: 11241265
Abstract: A perforated sheath is anchored in a tissue opening with the aid of a tool, wherein the anchorage is achieved with the aid of mechanical vibration and a material which is liquefiable by the vibration. The tool includes a vibrating element and a counter element. Distal portions of both elements are introduced into the sheath to be in contact with each other at an interface. The vibrating element is connected to a vibration source and the vibrating element and the counter element are held against each other for effecting liquefaction of the liquefiable material at the interface. Under the effect of the force applied to the vibrating and counter element for holding them against each other, the liquefied material flows from the interface through the sheath perforation and penetrates the tissue.
