Abstract: Systems, methods, and frameworks for distribution grid optimal power flow (D-OPF) are provided, to find the optimal droop and mode settings of smart inverters (SIs). The droop and mode settings of SIs can be found as per the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)-1547 in coordination with the operations of legacy voltage control devices for optimal Volt-VAR control performance. The D-OPF framework can utilize two timescale coordination of control of legacy grid voltage control devices, modes and droop settings of SIs, and active/reactive power dispatch of SIs.

  • Patent number: 11466882
Abstract: Methods and systems for monitoring multiple sensors over a distributed sensor network to enhance various monitoring operations. In some implementations, an identification of a sensor located in a property and a token that enables the mobile device to obtain data from the sensor are each received by a mobile device from a server. The mobile device is then determined to be within a communication range with the server that is indicated by the identification from the server. In response, data is obtained from the sensor by the mobile device using the token received from the server.

  • Patent number: 11462911
Abstract: The presence of injected DC has harmful consequences for a power grid system. A piecewise sinusoidal ripple voltage wave at the line-frequency that rides on the main capacitor bank of the power converter is observed. This observation leads to a new detection method and mitigation method. A two-stage control circuit is added to the operation of a power converter that controls power line impedance in order to mitigate the injected DC and to block DC circulation. This control computes a correction angle to adjust the timing of generated pulsed square waves to counter-balance the ripple. A functional solution and the results of experiments are presented. Furthermore, an extraction method and three elimination methods for this ripple component are presented to allow dissipation of DC energy through heat and/or electronic magnetic wave, or to allow transformation of this energy into usable power that is fed back into the power grid.

  • Patent number: 11460205
Abstract: Controller technology, in which data specifying a user preference relating to an environmental parameter for a property is received. Based on data collected by a monitoring system, a location of one or more users within the property is identified. Environmental condition data for the property is accessed, the environmental condition data including environmental condition data for the location of the users within the property and other unoccupied locations within the property. The environmental condition data for the property is analyzed with respect to the preference relating to the environmental parameter for the property. Based on the analysis of the environmental condition data for the property with respect to the preference relating to the environmental parameter for the property, a setting for at least one component of an HVAC system is determined. The at least one component of the HVAC system is controlled according to the determined setting.

  • Patent number: 11442083
Abstract: In a method and system, voltage and/or current signals on an electrical/power system is monitored. A power event is identified from the monitored voltage and/or current signals. In response to event identification, waveforms of the monitored voltage and/or current signals are captured. Energy-related signals are calculated and extracted from pre-event measurements, event measurements and post-event measurements using the captured waveforms. Additional information associated with the event is identified and calculated by comparing (a) the calculated and used energy-related signals from pre-event measurements, with (b) the calculated and used energy-related signals from post-event measurements.

  • Patent number: 11428212
Abstract: Systems and methods to monitor a wind turbine azimuth drivetrain. Azimuth variation characteristics data are accumulated from wind turbines over a period of time. Clusters of values within the azimuth variation characteristics data are identified and a respective condition of the main drivetrain is associated with different clusters of values. After the associating, a measured set of azimuth variation characteristics data is received. A cluster corresponds to values in the measured set of azimuth variation characteristics data is determined and a condition associated with that cluster is determined to be a condition associated with the subject main drivetrain. That condition is then reported.

  • Patent number: 11385602
Abstract: A system control method includes receiving a control task and randomly selecting a chromosome from an evolution pool according to the control task. The selected chromosome is decoded to obtain (N+1) ensemble policies, where the chromosome includes (N+1) gene fragments, and where N is a positive integer greater than or equal to 1. Each gene fragment can uniquely correspond to an ensemble policy, and each ensemble policy can uniquely correspond to a preset function. One ensemble policy is used for assigning a weight to a preset function that uniquely corresponds to the ensemble policy. The evolution pool can maintain two or more chromosomes. An ensemble calculation is performed according to weights assigned by the (N+1) ensemble policies to obtain an ensemble control output. A control signal is generated according to the ensemble control output, where the control signal is used for performing system control.

  • Patent number: 11378931
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a plurality of parts receives cutting instructions to produce a part based on a nominal model of the part. After cutting a given part, the method measures at least one particular feature of the given part with a coordinate measuring machine and subsequently calculates an error of the given part by determining an initial deviation between the cutting instructions and the nominal model. The cutting instructions are then adjusted based on the error to obtain updated cutting instructions, where the updated cutting instructions have a reduced deviation from the initial deviation with regard to the nominal model. The method then uses the updated cutting instructions to produce another part having a reduced error deviation from the nominal model.
