  • Patent number: 5132449
Abstract: The invention relates to the stabilization of the activity and/or the reactivation of molybdoheteropoly acid catalysts in vapor-phase oxidations, such as the oxidehydrogenation of isobutyric acid or its lower esters to methacrylic acid or its lower esters, by means of an oxidizing treatment of the catalyst in which compounds of catalyst constituents are added, at temperatures ranging from 200.degree. to 400.degree. C., with an oxygen-containing gas.The inventive activation measures can be carried out either during the catalytic vapor-phase reaction, such as oxihydrogenation in particular, or intermittently to alternate therewith, and optionally also physically separated in part from each other.

  • Patent number: 5077338
Abstract: A method of preparing a fiber reinforced elastomer by forming fibers therein in-situ and an elastomer made thereby are provided. In the method, a fiber forming material, preferably a high performance polymer, is dissolved in a compatible solvent to form a solvent/polymer mixture, and the mixture is added to the elastomer during compounding or mixing. The polymer is quickly dispersed into the elastomer, and the solvent rapidly evaporates. The shear of the mixer causes elongation of the polymer into fibers. The fibers may also be oriented by the shear of the mixer.

  • Patent number: 5048887
Abstract: An automotive vehicle body has a body opening defined by body structural members and a closure structure mounted on one of the body structural members for swinging movement between closed and opened positions. A sealing arrangement for the closure structure includes a corner bracket structure formed at a front upper portion of the closure structure, a reinforcement formed on one of the body structural members at a front upper portion of the body opening, and a continuous sealing member securely attached to the body structural members and a lower edge of the reinforcement. When the closure structure is in a closed position, the sealing member is in abutment with an inwardly facing surface of a sash member of the closure structure at the location above the corner bracket structure and gradually departs from the sash member in a rearward direction of the vehicle body at the location of the corner bracket structure.

  • Patent number: 4766904
Abstract: An applanation tonometer comprises a housing, a rod accommodated in the housing and carrying a contact disk adapted to interact with the corneal surface in order to exert force thereon, a unit for measuring the force applied to the cornea, a means for registering the instant of time when the diameter of an applanation circle on the corneal surface formed due to the effect of a force applied thereto reaches a preset value, and a recording unit. The registering means is made as a sleeve arranged coaxially with the rod carrying the contact disk and traversably along the rod axis, and a contact set electrically connected to the recording unit and mechanically associated with the traversable sleeve. An additional sleeve is traversable, set coaxially with the traversable sleeve of the registering means, and the end of said additional sleeve is concave-shaped.

  • Patent number: 4607439
Abstract: According to the invention, a novel laminated fabric sheet of excellent air permeability and a method for producing the same are provided. The laminated sheet comprises a first base fabric including spun yarn and having previously been treated with a water and oil repellent, a rubber composition layer formed on the first base fabric and having a multitude of fine air passages therein and a second sheet of base fabric laminated on the rubber composition layer. The base fabric which has been treated with the water and oil repellent prevents the coated rubber composition from reaching roots of whisker fibers of the spun yarn in the base fabric and fine cells are thereby formed around the lower portion of the whisker fibers. Subsequent heating of the laminated sheet of fabrics for curing the rubber composition causes these fine cells to be inflated to form air passages through the cured rubber composition layer.
