  • Patent number: 7124752
Abstract: A system for limiting the ingress of oil into an induction feed pipe provided in the cylinder head cover of an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The system provides a cylinder head cover including a cylinder head cover outlet, a top plate spaced from the cylinder head cover outlet, and a perforated deflector plate. The top plate and deflector plate define a chamber in communication with the cylinder head cover outlet.

  • Patent number: 6889674
Abstract: In prior art engine breather systems, shut off valves that prevent oil from entering the engine induction system have been mounted externally on the engine and require associated external pipework. Both the shut off valve and pipework are prone to damage and leaking. The closed circuit breather apparatus of the present invention includes a cylinder head cover and a shut off valve provided beneath the cylinder head cover. The shut off valve includes an aperture in communication with a blow-by gas inlet passage and a valve float restrained to move between a first position in which the aperture is open and a second position in which the aperture is closed. Preferably the shut off valve is integral with the cylinder head cover. The shut off valve is thus packaged inside the engine valve chamber, making it easy to fit and eliminating leak paths.

  • Publication number: 20050092309
Abstract: Known oil separators in blowby gas separation systems tend to be quite bulky and require significant space. The disclosed blowby gas separation system obviates this problem by providing a blowby gas separation system for an internal combustion engine which comprises a blowby gases transfer passage which is located externally of the engine and which is adapted to collect blowby gases from the engine, and a collection unit in fluid communication with the transfer passage and adapted to receive the blowby gases from the transfer passage and separate condensed oil from the blowby gases. The blowby gas transfer passage includes condensing media for condensing oil from the blowby gases. Also described is a method of re-circulating blowby gases from an internal combustion engine which includes the step of passing the blowby gases through condensing media in the transfer passage to condense oil from the blowby gases.

  • Patent number: 6199543
Abstract: A baffle for fitment over breather gas inlet of an internal combustion engine breather system to limit the ingress of oil droplets has a baffle plate at a first end, a second end connectable to a breather gas inlet, and a gas conduit extending between the ends, open at the second end and closed at the first end by the baffle plate, and having a perforated wall.

  • Patent number: 6196206
Abstract: An internal combustion engine breather system in which a lower engine volume is defined by an engine crankcase, an upper engine volume is defined by a top cover, and an upper forward part of the crankcase includes a housing defining a volume to accept a fuel injection pump. Breather gas inlet means are provided to receive breather gas from one or more locations within the volume defined by the fuel injector pump housing, a breather gas conduit fluidly connects the inlet to a separator capable of separating oil from suspension within the breather gas, and a breather balancing conduit fluidly connects the separator to the upper volume defined by the top cover.

  • Patent number: 5878731
Abstract: An internal combustion engine in which the oil content of blow-by gas is reduced by conveying the blow-by gas (34) away from the engine to be cooled in a heat exchanger (30). Oil (40) condensing from the cooled blow-by gas (34) is returned to the engine and the cooled blow-by gas is exhausted to atmosphere or conveyed to the engine air intake system.
