  • Publication number: 20180071695
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to emulsions, and more particularly, to multiple emulsions. In one aspect, multiple emulsions are formed by urging a fluid into a channel, e.g., by causing the fluid to enter the channel as a “jet.” Side channels can be used to encapsulate the fluid with a surrounding fluid. In some cases, multiple fluids may flow through a channel collinearly before multiple emulsion droplets are formed. The fluidic channels may also, in certain embodiments, include varying degrees of hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity. As examples, the fluidic channel may be relatively hydrophilic upstream of an intersection (or other region within the channel) and relatively hydrophobic downstream of the intersection, or vice versa. In some cases, the average cross-sectional dimension may change, e.g., at an intersection. For instance, the average cross-sectional dimension may increase at the intersection.

  • Publication number: 20180071397
Abstract: The present invention provides novel, serum-stable lipid particles comprising one or more active agents or therapeutic agents, methods of making the lipid particles, and methods of delivering and/or administering the lipid particles. More particularly, the present invention provides serum-stable nucleic acid-lipid particles (SNALP) comprising a nucleic acid (e.g., one or more interfering RNA molecules), methods of making the SNALP, and methods of delivering and/or administering the SNALP (e.g., for the treatment of cancer). In particular embodiments, the present invention provides tumor-directed lipid particles that preferentially target solid tumors. The tumor-directed formulations of the present invention are capable of preferentially delivering a payload such as a nucleic acid to cells of solid tumors compared to non-cancerous cells.

  • Publication number: 20180071476
Abstract: A patient interface device (100) for a pressure support system that includes a fluid coupling conduit (6) and a gas flow generator (4) that produces a flow of breathing gas for a patient. The patient interface device includes: a frame member (120) secured to the patient and an adjustment assembly (110), which includes a body member (130) coupled to the frame member. The body member is fluidly coupled to the fluid coupling conduit. A dial member (160) is coupled to each of the frame member and the body member. When the frame member is under tension and oriented concavely with respect to the dial member, the adjustment assembly is structured to move between a first position and a second position. • Publication number: 20180074526
Abstract: An overfill prevention system for use with a liquid storage tank includes a valve assembly defining a downwardly open liquid discharge opening. A pilot tube is fixed relative to and projects downwardly relative to the valve assembly. The pilot tube defines an internal channel in fluid communication with the valve assembly and a discharge hole spaced downwardly from the valve assembly and in fluid communication with the internal channel and the tank. A float is buoyantly shiftable along the pilot tube between an open position in which the float exposes the discharge hole when liquid within the tank is below a predetermined level, and a closed position in which the float covers the discharge hole when liquid within the tank reaches or exceeds the predetermined level. A flow diverter is disposed between the discharge opening and the float to deflect liquid from the discharge opening away from the float.

Abstract: Variable flow rate fuel ejectors, and methods of use therefore, are disclosed. One variable flow rate ejector includes a primary nozzle, a needle, a motor, a first stop portion, and a first impact-absorbing portion. The primary nozzle is connected to a first inlet chamber to receive a first fluid and transmit a flow of the first fluid through the primary nozzle opening. The needle is disposed to create a gap between the tapered portion of the needle and the primary nozzle opening. The motor is coupled to axially move the needle to vary a size of the gap. The first stop portion delimits the axial movement of the needle in a direction of retraction of the needle from the primary nozzle opening. The first impact-absorbing element is positioned to contact the first stop portion or the needle, respectively, when the needle is fully retracted from the primary nozzle opening.

  • Publication number: 20180073237
Abstract: A drain assembly comprises a shroud, a shank, and a frame. The drain assembly may further comprise a shim with an angled top surface. The frame may have an angled bottom surface. A rotational orientation of the angled top surface of the shim relative to the shank and a rotational orientation of the angled bottom surface of the frame relative to the shank may be independently adjustable, thereby allowing for the top surface of the frame to be both angularly and rotationally adjusted relative to a central axis of the drain assembly independent of the positional height of the shank. The drain assembly may further comprise a cover having bendable tabs. The bendable tabs may be disposed around a periphery of the cover and may be configured to contact an angled inner surface of an upper bowl of the shroud, such that the bendable tabs bend around the frame, thereby locking the cover onto the frame.
