  • Publication number: 20160250638
Abstract: Articles and methods for controlling flow in fluidic systems, especially in microfluidic systems, are provided. In one aspect, a microfluidic system described herein includes a configuration such that the actuation of a single valve can allow the switching of fluids from a first fluid path (e.g., a first channel section) to a second fluid path (e.g., a second channel section). This may be achieved, for example, by incorporating a valve with a first channel section, which may have a lower hydrodynamic resistance than a second channel section prior to actuation of the valve. Actuation of the valve can cause only the hydrodynamic resistance of the first channel section to increase, thereby redirecting fluid flow into the second channel section (which now has a relatively lower hydrodynamic resistance).

  • Publication number: 20160253109
Abstract: A processing device receives a request to delete a snapshot of a virtual machine. The processing device identifies a volume chain of a virtual disk in a shared storage that includes a destination storage volume and a source storage volume. The snapshot is associated with the source storage volume or the destination storage volume. The processing device instructs a host machine to perform a merge operation to merge data of the source storage volume with data of the destination storage volume and to delete the snapshot. The processing device monitors a set of writable storage volumes that comprises the destination storage volume to determine whether a storage threshold for any storage volume of the set of writable storage volumes is met during the merge operation. In response to the storage threshold being met during the merge operation, the processing device causes the performance of an extension operation to extend the allocated disk space of at least one storage volume of the set of writable storage volumes.

  • Publication number: 20160252027
Abstract: A method for use with an internal combustion engine having both donor and non-donor cylinder groups includes: injecting a fuel in one, or both, of the groups; injecting a second fuel in both groups at a first substitution rate; recirculating an exhaust emission from the donor cylinder group to both groups; combusting a mixture of air, the first fuel, the second fuel and the exhaust emission in both cylinder groups; and lowering the substitution rate of the second fuel in one, or both, of the cylinder groups. Other methods of controlling an engine and a system are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20160255092
Abstract: Various embodiments of the present technology involve the sharing of a content item though a synchronized content management system (CMS) without requiring a user to register or provide login credentials. For example, the CMS can receive a request from a first user of a computing device to share a content item with a second user. Instead of requiring the user to register or provide their login credentials, the CMS can generate an unregistered user account using a unique identifier associated with the computing device. Accordingly, in order to share the content item, the CMS can generate a link to retrieve the content item and send the link to the second user. Thus, creation of an unregistered user account can require no login credentials, thereby providing a simple, user friendly interface for initiating interactions with the CMS.

  • Publication number: 20160254673
Abstract: A local power converter may include a controller to manipulate the operating point of a local power converter to cause the power point tracking feature of a central power converter to operate at a point determined by the controller. In some embodiments, the controller can manipulate the operating point of the local power converter by alternating between at least two modes. In some other embodiments, the controller can manipulate the operating point of the local power converter to provide a substantially constant slope. In some other embodiments, the controller can maintain a substantially constant impedance ratio. In some other embodiments, the controller enables perturbations from the power point tracking feature of the central power converter to reach the power source.

  • Patent number: 9429940
Abstract: A self-propelled device includes a spherical housing and an internal drive system including one or more motors. The internal drive system acts to provide power to an interior surface of the spherical housing, thereby causing the self-propelled device to move. A biasing assembly can be included to enable the internal drive system to continuously engage an inner surface of the spherical housing. An external accessory magnetically interacts with interior magnetic components through the spherical housing such that as the self-propelled device rotates and maneuvers, the accessory component maintains a positional relationship to a top portion of the self-propelled device.

  • Patent number: 9430739
Abstract: Examples of the disclosure are directed toward generating a causation score with respect to an agent and an outcome, and projecting a future causation score distribution. For example, a causation score may be determined with respect to a hypothesis that a given agent causes a given outcome, and the score may indicate the acceptance of that hypothesis in the scientific community, as described by scientific literature. A future causation score distribution, then, may indicate a probability distribution over possible future causation scores, thereby predicting the scientific acceptance of the hypothesis at some specific date in the future. A future causation score distribution can be projected by first generating one or more future publication datasets, and then determining causation scores for each of the one or more future publication datasets.

  • Patent number: 9430469
Abstract: Systems and methods for recursively generating pivot tables are described. A processor provides, for display, a first table including a first set of results, each result including values corresponding to a first dimension. Each value of the first dimension is associated with a corresponding actionable object for further filtering a data set. In response to an action on an actionable object, the processor identifies a first set of entries of the plurality of entries that correspond to a value of the first dimension with which the actionable object is associated. The processor receives a second request to generate a second table from the first table identifying a second dimension. The processor generates the second table including a second set of results having values corresponding to the second dimension identified in the second request.

  • Patent number: 9430669
Abstract: A content management system allows a user to create a collection folder to which a submitting user can add content items without being able to access content items added to the folder by other submitting users. A collection folder is created in a namespace of a collecting user and folder is made available to multiple submitting users to allow the submitting users to add items to the folder. When a submitting user first request to store a content item in the collection folder, the content management system creates a sub-folder associated with the submitting user in the collection folder and stores the content item in the sub-folder. The submitting user is given rights to the sub-folder, but is not given rights to sub-folders created for other submitting users.

  • Patent number: 9430766
Abstract: Various embodiments describe systems and methods enable a computing device of a user to capture an image of a gift card, or other such monetary device containing a code, with a camera or otherwise receive an image of that gift card. The computing device can be configured to recognize codes, such as digit claim codes, of the gift card by using one or more image processing, computer vision, and/or machine learning algorithms. After a successful detection and verification of a claim code, money or funds deposited in, or otherwise available from, an account associated with the gift card can be utilized, such as applied to a purchase or deposited into the user's account. In many instances, a user interface (UI) can be provided on the computing device for the user to use to capture an image of a gift card and redeem the funds from the corresponding card.

  • Patent number: 9430664
Abstract: An application on a device can communicate with organization services. The application accesses a protection system on the device, which encrypts data obtained by the application from an organization service using an encryption key, and includes with the data an indication of a decryption key usable to decrypt the encrypted data. The protection system maintains a record of the encryption and decryption keys associated with the organization. The data can be stored in various locations on at least the device, and can be read by various applications on at least the device. If the organization determines that data of the organization stored on a device is to no longer be accessible on the device (e.g., is to be revoked from the device), a command is communicated to the device to revoke data associated with the organization. In response to this command, the protection system deletes the decryption key.
