Abstract: A turbine exhaust casing having an outer casing, an inner casing, an annular exhaust gas path defined between outer and inner flow path walls, and a turbine exhaust casing cavity located radially outward and radially inward from the gas path. A plurality of structural struts support the inner casing to the outer casing, and a fairing surrounds each of the struts in an area extending between the outer and inner flow path walls. A first purge air path extends through at least one of the struts for conducting purge cooling air radially inward to the inner casing, and a second purge air path extends through the strut for further conducting the purge cooling air radially outward to provide a flow of purge air to a location of the exhaust casing cavity radially outward from the outer flow path wall.

  • Publication number: 20140201896
Abstract: The invention is directed to a toilet overflow prevention device. The device is a toilet tank shutoff system, composed of a sensor for use in the toilet bowl or tank, an electro-mechanical actuator, and an electronic communication link. The electromechanical actuator is configured to raise the control rod, which controls the filler valve of the toilet. A latch mechanism would retain the control rod, once it is raised. The system would raise the control rod upon receiving a signal from the sensor that the toilet is at risk of overflowing; the control rod would be retained in the raised position by the latch mechanism without requiring electric current, until released manually by the user. The sensor in the toilet bowl would preferably be in electronic communication with the electro-mechanical actuator in the toilet tank by a wire covered in a durable material, or by a short range, wireless communication protocol.

  • Publication number: 20140207662
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and computer-readable storage devices for receiving an identification of a giver, a gift, an amount of money to pay for the gift, and a recipient of the gift at a first time. The system can associate a policy with the gift, and initiate, at the first time, a transfer of at least part of the amount of money to pay for the gift from the giver payment account to a holding account that is separate from the recipient payment account. The system can monitor, according to the policy, purchases of the recipient using the recipient payment account to yield purchasing information based on the purchasing information, and determine whether the recipient has made a qualifying purchase according to the policy. If so, the system can apply the amount of money to pay for the gift from the holding account to the recipient payment account.

  • Publication number: 20140207351
Abstract: A secondary controller for controlling the performance of a vehicle is described. The secondary controller sends control commands to a vehicle controller while the vehicle is being driven to effect the operation of the vehicle's power train without requiring any modification of the vehicle controller and without falsifying any information sent to the vehicle controller. In some embodiments, the secondary controller communicates with the vehicle controller via the vehicle's diagnostic port, such as an OBD-II port. In one aspect, the secondary controller is used to direct the vehicle controller not to utilize a start/stop feature to automatically turn off the engine in the selected circumstances during normal operation of the vehicle. As such, the control command causes the vehicle controller to operate the vehicle in the selected operating mode in manner dictated by the engine controller.

  • Publication number: 20140204718
Abstract: A method for synchronizing a first device with a second device may include receiving an alarm activation time from the first device. An alarm may be set on the second device to be the same as the alarm activation time. An indication that the alarm is set on the second device may be sent to the first device. Immediately prior to the alarm activation time, it may be determined that the first device is proximate to the second device, and upon determining that the first device is proximate to the second device, the alarm may be activated on the second device at the alarm activation time. The devices may be considered proximate based on a connection protocol, such as when the first device is able to communicate with the second device over a wired or wireless communication protocol.
