  • Patent number: 8511577
Abstract: A thermostat includes a plurality of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) wire connectors including a connection to at least one call relay wire. The thermostat may also include a powering circuit, including a rechargeable battery, which is configured to provide electrical power to the thermostat by power stealing from a selected call relay wire. The power stealing may include an active power stealing mode, in which power is taken from the same selected call relay wire that is used to call for an HVAC function, and an inactive power stealing mode in which, in which no active call is being made. The powering circuit may be configured to substantially suspend (or at least reduce the level of) power stealing for at least a first time period following each transition of the thermostat from between operating states.

  • Publication number: 20130206689
Abstract: The present invention may be used in systems and methods for brine treatment scaling control in a water treatment system. A concentrated brine stream influent may be treated in an electrodialysis-reversal process to produce a concentrated brine stream effluent and a lower salinity diluent water, which may be potable water effluent. The concentrated brine stream effluent may be processed in a brine treatment scaling control system that may have a mixing vessel and a membrane filter with the mixing vessel seeded with calcium sulfate. A lowered salinity brine stream effluent may be produced for return to the electrodialysis-reversal process to allow operation at greater overall recovery and an elevated concentrated brine stream may be produced.

  • Publication number: 20130212367
Abstract: Techniques for providing security policy for device data are described. In implementations, data on a device is stored in an encrypted form. To protect the encrypted data from being decrypted by an unauthorized entity, techniques enable a decryption key to be occluded if an attempt to gain unauthorized access to device data is detected. In implementations, a decryption key can be occluded in a variety of ways, such as by deleting the decryption key, overwriting the encryption key in memory, encrypting the encryption key, and so on. Embodiments enable an occluded decryption key to be recovered via a recovery experience. For example, a recovery experience can include an authentication procedure that requests a recovery password. If a correct recovery password is provided, the occluded decryption key can be provided.

  • Publication number: 20130205838
Abstract: One or more ergonomic crochet devices are provided herein. A crochet device may comprise a curved elongated shaft and/or a grip anchor. The curved elongated shaft may be configured to provide a depressed resting angle of the crochet device when held by the user at rest. The depressed resting angle may result in a hook of the curved elongated shaft being positioned at a lower position than conventional crochet devices when held at rest. In this way, reduced wrist flexing may be used to lower the hook into a crocheting angle and/or maintain the hook at the crocheting angle during crocheting activity. The grip anchor may be configured to create a pivot point of the crochet device near the grip anchor. In this way, small wrist motion may translate into large positional change of the hook in order to easily rotate and/or manipulate the crochet device during crocheting activity.

  • Publication number: 20130212422
Abstract: Various embodiments provide a method and apparatus of providing a rapid disaster recovery preparation in cloud networks that proactively detects disaster events and rapidly allocates cloud resources. Rapid disaster recovery preparation may shorten the recovery time objective (RTO) by proactively growing capacity on the recovery application(s)/resource(s) before the surge of recovery traffic hits the recovery application(s)/resource(s). Furthermore, rapid disaster recovery preparation may shorten RTO by growing capacity more rapidly than during “normal operation” where the capacity is increased by modest growth after the load has exceeded a utilization threshold for a period of time.

  • Publication number: 20130206085
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder crankcase and a cylinder head that includes an integrated exhaust manifold, wherein the cylinder crankcase, the cylinder head and the integrated exhaust manifold have a continuous water jacket that forms part of a coolant circuit of the internal combustion engine. To ensure during shut-down cooling and/or warm-up cooling of the exhaust manifold that a majority of the coolant that is fed into the water jacket reaches the exhaust manifold, while only a small portion of the coolant flows around the cylinder through the cylinder crankcase, the coolant circuit includes a collector that communicates via passage openings having reduced opening cross-sections with the water jacket, and coolant channels arranged in extension of a flow direction through the passage-openings lead to the exhaust manifold, while coolant channels branching off laterally behind the passage-openings lead to the cylinder crankcase.

  • Publication number: 20130206245
Abstract: A flow control device comprises a housing, a flow restriction member, and a flow control ring defining a flow control port which is configured to receive the flow restriction member. The flow control ring is configured so as to be sealingly mounted onto a base pipe. The flow restriction member is at least partially inserted into the flow control port so as to at least partially define a predetermined flow restriction through the flow control ring. The housing is sealingly mounted on the flow control ring. The flow control device may be mounted on a base pipe. The flow control device may be used for controlling fluid flow, in particular, though not exclusively in oil and/or gas wells.
