  • Patent number: 7931858
Abstract: A method of decontaminating a surface is provided. A surface to propagate electromagnetic surface waves is provided having a frequency in the microwave spectrum between 1 GHz and 1000 GHz. The surface includes a surface-wave medium or the surface-wave medium is laminated on the surface for confining the electromagnetic surface waves to the surface. The surface-wave medium includes a conductive ground plane. A dielectric is provided on the ground plane. A metallic pattern is provided on the dielectric for increasing an inductive reactance of the surface-wave medium. Electromagnetic surface waves are transmitted onto the surface from a surface-wave coupler coupled to the surface for destroying, removing, or neutralizing chemical or biological surface contaminants. The surface contaminants are destroyed, removed, or neutralized with a plasma created by the electromagnetic surface waves or through absorption of the electromagnetic surface waves.

  • Patent number: 7931929
Abstract: A system (50) is provided for the production of elongated comestible products such as hot dogs, without the use of traditional casings. The system (50) includes a circular pattern of arrays (92) of elongated, open-ended, extruded synthetic resin cooking tubes (94, 96) within a rotatable cylindrical heating drum or housing (70). The tube housing (70) and arrays (92) are incrementally rotated and at each stop position certain of the tubes (94, 96) are filled with portions of meat emulsion (590) and alternating plugs (208), while previously filled tubes (94, 96) containing cooked product are unloaded, and other unfilled tubes are internally coated with a lubricant (e.g., a mixture of lecithin and vegetable oil). Energy exchange media such as hot water and/or steam are used within the housing to continuously cook the emulsion portions within the tubes (94, 96) to the desired extent.

  • Patent number: 7933950
Abstract: A method providing secure control of features of a digital device. In one embodiment, the method comprises sending, from a digital device that participates in a service, to a service provider that provides the service, a request to participate in the service; receiving a digital message that identifies a service state for the digital device, wherein the digital message is encoded uniquely for the digital device, wherein the digital message is unusable at a different digital device; based on the digital message, determining a plurality of control values that collectively define the service state within the digital device; and providing the control values to one or more applications hosted by the digital device that deliver a service experience associated with the service, or a feature, to an end user of the digital device.

  • Patent number: 7934216
Abstract: A load balancing method incorporates temporarily inactive machines as part of the resources capable of executing tasks during heavy process requests periods to alleviate some of the processing load on other computing resources. This method determines which computing resources are available and prioritizes these resources for access by the load balancing process. A snap shot of the resource configuration and made secured along with all data on this system such that no contamination occurs between resident data on that machine and any data placed on that machine as put of the load balancing activities. After a predetermined period of time or a predetermined event, the availability of the temporary resources for load balancing activities ends. At this point, the original configuration and data is restored to the computing resource such that no trace of use of the resource in load balancing activities is detected to the user.

  • Publication number: 20110089035
Abstract: A gel cassette adaptor for use with an electrophoresis system gel cassette is disclosed herein. The gel cassette adaptor allows a single gel cassette to be compatible with more than one electrophoresis system. In one example embodiment, the gel cassette adaptor includes an open sided trough having an attachment perimeter and an attachment flange coupled to the attachment perimeter. The attachment flange is designed to be compatible for mating with a gel cassette that is compatible with a first electrophoresis system. After attachment of the gel cassette adaptor, the resulting gel cassette assembly is compatible with a second electrophoresis system. Also provided is a gel cassette that includes a stabilizer post that connects the cassette plates to maintain a constant gap width between the plates during electrophoresis. In reducing deformation of the gap space between plates during gel runs, the stabilizer post can improve electrophoresis results for wide format gels.

  • Publication number: 20110092264
Abstract: The online poker gaming system comprises a live or recorded poker game, and at least one gaming terminal. The live or recorded poker game involves a group of players sitting around a table. Each player is playing for prize money so there is a cash incentive for each to win. The player terminal displays images of the live or recorded game being broadcast for view by an online player. The player terminal also includes a schematic of the game for presenting in a concise and visual way, the game status and gaming data of the live or recorded game. The player terminal also includes a keypad, enabling the online player to select one or more players to win, and select a value for each selection. So while the online player cannot make gaming decisions—fold, call, check, and raise—the online player can participate by making selections, much as one would make selections at a racetrack. The online player can make multiple playing selections unavailable to the player sitting at the table.
