Publication number: 20250165605Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for enforcement of validated operations of hardware components installed in an IHS (Information Handling System), such as a rack-mounted server. During factory provisioning of the IHS, a factory-signed inventory certificate is uploaded to the IHS that identifies its factory-installed hardware and also identifies validated firmware used to operate each factory-installed hardware component. This inventory certificate is used to validate that the detected hardware and firmware of the IHS are genuine. When a firmware discrepancy is detected during these validations, further operation of the IHS may be halted until the factory-provisioned firmware is restored, as determined based on the inventory certificate, thus enforcing operation of the factory-installed hardware to operation using factory-provisioned firmware.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 16, 2023Publication date: May 22, 2025Applicant: Dell Products, L.P.Inventors: A Anis Ahmed, Jason Matthew Young, AVS SashiKiran, Sivakumar Boopathirajan, Rahul Kumar Pandey

Publication number: 20250165606Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for validated transfer of replaceable hardware components within a computing cluster comprised of multiple IHSs (Information Handling Systems), such as rack-mounted servers. During factory provisioning of the IHS, a factory-signed inventory certificate is uploaded to each IHS that identifies factory-installed hardware of the IHS. This inventory certificate is used to validate that the detected hardware of the IHS is genuine factory-installed hardware. Upon a successful validation of detected hardware by an IHS, a cluster management console is notified. Based on the notifications of validated hardware by the IHS, the cluster management console identifies replaceable hardware components installed within IHSs that are members of the computing cluster. The cluster management console generates a delta certificate that authorizes operation by the IHS of the replaceable hardware components installed within IHSs that are members of the computing cluster.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 17, 2023Publication date: May 22, 2025Applicant: Dell Products, L.P.Inventors: Shinose Abdul Rahiman, Rama Rao Bisa, Mini Thottunkal Thankappan, Vineeth Radhakrishnan, Dharma Bhushan Ramaiah, A Anis Ahmed, Jason Matthew Young

Publication number: 20250156295Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for supporting validation of flexible configurations of hardware components installed in IHSs (Information Handling Systems). During factory provisioning of an IHS, a factory-signed inventory certificate is uploaded to the IHS that identifies factory-installed hardware of the IHS, and that also includes designations for each of the factory-installed hardware components as required or optional components. Upon deployment of the IHS, validation procedures of the IHS use the inventory certificate to validate the detected IHS hardware as factory-installed hardware. When a hardware component specified in the inventory certificate as optional is not present in the detected hardware components, booting of the IHS may continue. When a hardware component specified in the inventory certificate as required is not present in the detected hardware components, a validation failure is signaled.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2023Publication date: May 15, 2025Applicant: Dell Products, L.P.Inventors: Dharma Bhushan Ramaiah, Shinose Abdul Rahiman, Rama Rao Bisa, Mini Thottunkal Thankappan, Vineeth Radhakrishnan, A Anis Ahmed, Jason Matthew Young

Patent number: 12105856Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for validating and registering an IHS (Information Handling System) and components of the IHS for technical support. Upon delivery and initialization of an IHS, an inventory certificate that was uploaded to the IHS during factory provisioning of the IHS is retrieved. The inventory certificate includes an inventory that identifies factory-installed hardware components in the IHS. The inventory also specifies whether a registration requirement has been specified for the IHS, such as to initiate technical support. While still operating a pre-boot validation process, an inventory is collected of the detected hardware components of the IHS. Based on the inventory certificate, the validation process confirms whether a detected hardware component is a factory-installed hardware component and determines whether registration is required. If required, registration of the IHS is initiated by the validation process and initialization of the IHS continues.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2021Date of Patent: October 1, 2024Assignee: Dell Products, L.P.Inventors: Jason Matthew Young, A Anis Ahmed, Harmeet Singh
