  • Publication number: 20090139464
Abstract: A animal restraint includes a buckle connected at one end to a leash or the like and its other end to a short tether having a D-ring termination. A snap hook with a latching side is easily connected to the restraint. The buckle has two relatively rotary parts which form a bayonet-type connection. The axis of rotation of the buckle parts is perpendicular to the tension axis, so that tension does not tend to undo the buckle.

  • Publication number: 20090139556
Abstract: A thermoelectric power generator is disclosed for use to generate electrical power from heat, typically waste heat. An intermediate heat transfer loop forms a part of the system to permit added control and adjustability in the system. This allows the thermoelectric power generator to more effectively and efficiently generate power in the face of dynamically varying temperatures and heat flux conditions, such as where the heat source is the exhaust of an automobile, or any other heat source with dynamic temperature and heat flux conditions.

  • Publication number: 20090144077
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method to dynamically identify, assemble, or otherwise simulate the availability of resources for an orchestrated service or application, thereby allowing for strategic changes in scheduling, purchasing, hiring, and the like to ensure that the resources needed to deliver the desired outcome during a particular time period are present. In particular, the system includes an orchestration module storing a plurality of resource parameters, correlating a predetermined criterion for one or more resources with an event, and simulating the event, where the simulation includes comparing the stored plurality of parameters with the predetermined criterion. The system further determines whether the stored plurality of parameters satisfy the predetermined criterion, and may store the determination for subsequent evaluation.

  • Patent number: 7540537
Abstract: A pretensioning apparatus for seat belt webbing is located in the vicinity of a belt anchor end of a three-point vehicle safety restraint seat belt. The pretensioning apparatus has a fixed member in the form of a tubular member that may be anchored to a vehicle seat at the belt anchor side of the vehicle. A movable member in the form of a piston is connected to the webbing in the region of the belt anchor end. A means is provided for moving the movable member relative to the fixed member in a generally horizontal direction, to move the seat belt webbing in a pretensioning direction in response to a signal from a crash sensor. A webbing guide is fixed to the seat to provide an effective anchorage point spaced from the belt anchor end of the webbing under pretensioning conditions.

  • Patent number: 7542716
Abstract: A digital payload for processing a sub-band spectrum received on an uplink beam at a communications satellite includes a digital channelizer, a digital switch matrix and a digital combiner. The digital channelizer divides the sub-band spectrum into a plurality of frequency slices that can be routed by the digital switch matrix to any of a number of receiving ports. A digital combiner receives the frequency slices and re-assembles them to form one or more output sub-bands for transmission on an output beam of the communications satellite. The digital payload may also include an embeddable digital regeneration module configured to demodulate some or all of the sub-band spectrum to extract a digital bitstream therefrom. The digital bitstream may be processed to implement code-based multiplexing, switching, access control, and other features.

  • Patent number: 7543109
Abstract: A method for caching data in a blade computing complex includes providing a storage blade that includes a disk operative to store pages of data and a cache memory operative to store at least one of the pages. A processor blade is provided that includes a first memory area to store at least one of the pages and a second memory area configured to store an address of each of the pages and a hint value that is assigned to each of the pages. An address of each of the pages is stored in the second memory area, and a hint is assigned to each of the pages, where the hint is one of: likely to be accessed, may be accessed, and unlikely to be accessed. The page is then stored in storage blade cache memory based on the hint.

  • Publication number: 20090138220
Abstract: A directory-based coherency method, system and program are provided for intervening a requested cache line from a plurality of candidate memory sources in a multiprocessor system on the basis of the sensed temperature or power dissipation value at each memory source. By providing temperature or power dissipation sensors in each of the candidate memory sources (e.g., at cores, cache memories, memory controller, etc.) that share a requested cache line, control logic may be used to determine which memory source should source the cache line by using the power sensor signals to signal only the memory source with acceptable power dissipation to provide the cache line to the requester.

  • Publication number: 20090138682
Abstract: A method, system and program are provided for dynamically assigning priority values to instruction threads in a computer system based on one or more predetermined thread performance tests, and using the assigned instruction priorities to determine how resources are used in the system. By storing the assigning priority values for each thread as a tag in the thread's instructions, tagged instructions from different threads that are dispatched through the system are allocated system resources based on the tagged priority values assigned to the respective instruction threads. Priority values for individual threads may be updated with control software which tests thread performance and uses the test results to apply predetermined adjustment policies.

Abstract: A method, system and program are provided for dynamically assigning priority values to instruction threads in a computer system based on one or more predetermined thread performance tests, and using the assigned instruction priorities to determine how resources are used in the system. By storing the assigning priority values in thread priority registers distributed throughout the computer system, instructions from different threads that are dispatched through the system are allocated system resources based on the priority values assigned to the respective instruction threads. Priority values for individual threads may be updated with control software which tests thread performance and uses the test results to apply predetermined adjustment policies.

  • Publication number: 20090133366
Abstract: A dispenser comprises a housing that has a removable tamper proof protective cap and tamper proof ring and is threaded to a container. The container, which is the main package, holds the supplemental component. The housing holds the first component into a plunger type chamber in a fully retracted position and is sealed from the supplemental component. The chamber has a delivery end that is closed before use. When pushed all the way in, the chamber's delivery end becomes open and delivers the first component into the main package.

  • Publication number: 20090135426
Abstract: A coin dispensing apparatus, which ejects coins by squeezing them substantially chordally between an element on a rotor and an ejector, has a variable height rotor (3), an improved two-part coin ejector (10a, 10b). A optical sensor for detecting coins being ejected positive detects both the presence and absence of coins in a coin path. Also, a payout device comprising a first coin dispensing device (61) including a dispensed coin type detector and a second coin dispensing device (62). The first coin dispensing device (61) is used to store coins of plurality of large denominations and is used initially for paying out an amount. The second coin dispensing device (62) is used for a single low denomination coin type and coins are dispensed from the second coin dispensing device (62) after the first coin dispensing device has been used as much as possible.

  • Publication number: 20090138967
Abstract: A method and system is provided by which unauthorized changes to the registry may be detected and that provides the capability to verify whether registry, or other system configuration data, changes that occur on a computer system are undesirable or related to possible malware attack before the changes become effective or are saved on the system. A method for verifying changes to system configuration data in a computer system comprises generating an identifier representing an entry in the system configuration data, packaging the identifier, and sending the packaged identifier to a client for verification. The identifier may be generated by hashing the first portion of the entry and the second portion of the entry to generate the identifier, or by filtering the first portion of the entry and hashing the filtered first portion of the entry and the second portion of the entry to generate the identifier.
