Abstract: A system and method for improved authenticated access to personal health information are disclosed. A remote access device sends a request and user registration information to a server when attempting to access the personal health information. If the user is pre-authorized to access the personal health information, access is provided to the personal health information. If the user is not pre-authorized, credential information is requested from the user. If the requested credential information collectively verifies the user is an authentic healthcare provider, the user may be provided permission to access a limited subset of the personal health information in a speedy manner despite not being pre-authorized. A successful attempt to access the personal information may initiate automatic notification of a designated contact (e.g., the patient's relatives) while an unsuccessful attempt may collect further user-related information, and cause automatic notification of the patient or other contact.
