  • Patent number: 8310249
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sensing particulates within an exhaust flow are provided. The methods and apparatus utilize a soot sensor that includes opposed electrodes separated by an insulator. Preferably, a gap is formed between the electrodes and the insulator to prevent electrical current from flowing therebetween. The soot sensor, when positioned in an exhaust flow, will accumulate a layer of particulates on an outer surface thereof. As the layer of particulates increases the particulates will bridge the two electrodes permitting current flow. The sensor is configured with a proper geometry and potential difference between the electrodes to generate currents in the milli-amp range. Further, the sensor is configured to have a regenerative effect that causes the bridge to be broken when particles sees to impinge the soot sensor.

  • Patent number: 8311935
Abstract: Techniques and systems are disclosed for calculating daylight negative balance fees charged to a user associated with a plurality of deposit account. The daylight negative balance fees may be customized (or adjusted) to the amount of time the user's aggregate accounts maintained a negative balance. As such, those users that spend more time with a negative balance during a business day may be charged higher fees than other users. Moreover, multiple deposit platforms may provide account data through feeds. As such a user with multiple accounts may be charged according to its aggregate negative balance amount rather than simply on each account individually. Additionally, enhanced reporting and billing features are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8309036
Abstract: A structure for holding sample-containing receptacles includes a cover with holes formed therein through which the receptacles can be accessed with a substance transfer mechanism, such as a robotic pipettor. When the transfer mechanism is inserted into and then withdrawn from a receptacle, a string of viscous material may be suspended from the mechanism. A viscous string removal element adjacent each opening engages the string of viscous material and dislodges the string from the mechanism when the mechanism moves in a prescribed path with respect to the removal element.

  • Publication number: 20120284410
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for workload management in a computer system is provided. According to the method, a first compute node broadcasts a workload bid request to a plurality of compute nodes, wherein the workload bid request includes workload parameters characterizing the workload. The plurality of compute nodes each receive the workload bid request from the first compute node, and each of the plurality of compute nodes uses the workload parameters included in the workload bid request to calculate a cost of running the workload. One or more individual compute nodes within the plurality of compute nodes each send a workload bid to the first compute node, wherein each workload bid includes the cost of running the workload on the individual compute node sending the workload bid. The first compute node receives each workload bid and selects a target compute node to run the workload.

  • Publication number: 20120279606
Abstract: An internally insulated rigid exhaust system conduit and method for making the same are provided. The conduit includes an outer rigid tube, a generally flexible inner portion positioned within the outer tube and an insulation layer positioned therebetween. The conduit may include one or more bends or curves. Due to the flexibility of the inner portion and insulation, a gap defined between the inner portion and outer tube may be generally uniform in width even after the bending of the outer tube. During the manufacturing process, the inner portion is wrapped with a blanket or sleeve of insulation material to form a wrapped subassembly and then inserted into the outer tube. The insertion of the wrapped subassembly may occur either before or after a bending of the outer tube. The insulation may also be blown into the gap defined between the inner portion and outer tube.
