  • Patent number: 6626755
Abstract: A carbonless form is provided that may be folded selectively into a duplicating state or a non-duplicating state. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a carbonless form is provided comprising a form sheet, a transverse fold line, an assigned data entry portion, and an exposed data entry portion. The form sheet defines a front face, a rear face, a top edge, a bottom edge, and a pair of side edges. The transverse fold line extends across the form sheet to define a first panel and a second panel on opposite sides of the transverse fold line. The assigned data entry portion is defined on the rear face of the second panel. The exposed data entry portion is defined on the front face of the first panel. A CB coating is applied to the rear face of the form sheet in the first panel and a CF coating is applied to the rear face of the form sheet in the second panel.

  • Patent number: 6573216
Abstract: A single ply carbonless form is provided where a sheet is divided into a first portion and a second portion. A coating of CF is applied to the first portion and a coating of CB is applied to the second portion, both on the same side of the sheet. A quantity of temporary tacking agent is applied to the back face of the sheet such that, upon folding the sheet in a manner where the CF and CB portions are not in contact with each other, the first portion is releasably held against the second portion. The form may then be sheet fed into a printing device, preferably using the folded edge as the leading edge. Subsequent to printing, the form may then be re-folded such that the CF and CB coating suitably line up for receiving impact impressions.

  • Patent number: 6569280
Abstract: A laminated product is provided including a carrier sheet, a polymeric film ply, a polymeric card ply, and a radiation-curable laminating adhesive. The polymeric film ply is secured to the carrier sheet and extends over a cut-out portion formed in the carrier sheet. The polymeric card ply is positioned within the cut-out portion. Either the film ply, the card ply, or both, are transparent to electromagnetic radiation. The radiation-curable laminating adhesive is positioned to secure the polymeric card ply to the exposed ply portion and comprises a bonding agent, a monomer, an oligomer, a tackifier, and a photocatalyst. The bonding agent is present in a quantity sufficient to improve the bonding characteristics of the adhesive composition. The monomer is present in a quantity sufficient to (i) increase the flexibility of the adhesive composition, and (ii) increase the tendency of the adhesive composition to release substantially cleanly from a surface to which it is bonded.

  • Publication number: 20030015866
Abstract: A form is provided having a fold line dividing the form into a first panel and a second panel. Hidden information is provided within the first panel. The second panel is suitably impregnated with a transparentizing composition such that a transparentized window portion is defined integral with the second panel. A decoder is constructed comprising the transparentized window portion. The positioning of the hidden information within the first panel, and the decoder in the second panel is such that when the form is folded along the fold line, the hidden information becomes apparent to a user by viewing the first panel in conjunction with the decoder.

  • Patent number: 6309495
Abstract: A web or sheet product is provided which is coated on at least a portion of its surface with a bond-enabling material for adhering toner particles on the surface of the sheet. The sheet product can be used as a mailer or confidential form which is sealed using toner particles as the adhesive. The bond-enabling material may be a polymer which is coated on the sheet as a liquid and then cured to form a film on the surface of the sheet. The bond-enabling material is resistant to melting or degrading when exposed to temperatures used for fusing toner particles, and additionally may act as a tie coat to enhance the adhesion of toner particles to the surface of the sheet. The bond-enabling material may be coated on the peripheral edges of the sheet, and toner particles are printed over the bond-enabling material on the peripheral edges of the sheet. The sheet is folded and sealed by the application of heat and pressure to the edges of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 6258746
Abstract: A thermally imagable business record, such as a form, label, tag, or the like is provided which may be activated to form human and/or machine readable images as well as different colored images. The record comprises a substrate having a thermally imagable coating on substantially its entire surface which forms a first color when activated, and having a desensitized area on at least one area of its surface which may be overcoated with a thermally imagable coating capable of forming a different color upon activation than the first thermally imagable coating. The first thermally imagable coating provides images which are of machine readable quality, while the additional thermally imagable coatings provide images of a different color to designate selected areas on the form or label to a user.

  • Patent number: 5984363
Abstract: A thermally imagable business record such as a form, tag, label or the like is provided in which selected areas of the record may be activated to form an image upon exposure to heat. In one embodiment, at least one selected area of a substrate surface contains a thermally imagable coating of initially colorless color formers and color developers while the remaining areas of the substrate are left uncoated. The substrate may be pre-coated to provide a smooth, non-porous base coat for the thermally imagable coating, and may also include a protective coating layer to protect the subsequently printed thermal image.

  • Patent number: 5912205
Abstract: A security document is provided containing a color-forming composition having an insulating material therein which allows the document to be passed through heated printing devices such as laser printers without the problem of premature color development. The color-forming composition includes a mixture of a color former, a color developer, and an insulating material. In a preferred embodiment, a toner adhesion-enhancing composition containing an insulating material is applied over the color-forming composition. The security document may be used to provide an authentication feature and/or an indication of attempted alterations from the use of solvents, heat or abrasion.

  • Patent number: 5853197
Abstract: A security document is provided comprising a substrate having a top surface for carrying indicia. The top surface has a plurality of areas. Each of the areas contains background printed matter on the top surface. The background printed matter made up of a pattern of background elements. Each of the areas also contains a security term printed on the top surface of the substrate. The security term is composed of a pattern of security term elements. The background elements and/or the security term elements differ in element size, shape, angle, density, and/or frequency between adjacent areas. Also, within each of the areas either the background elements or the security term elements are not readily duplicated by a color copier while the remaining elements in the area are readily duplicated by a color copier. This results in a visually perceptible security term being produced upon copying of the security document.
