  • Patent number: 8706180
Abstract: An electrochemical analyte sensor formed using conductive traces on a substrate can be used for determining and/or monitoring a level of analyte in in vitro or in vivo analyte-containing fluids. For example, an implantable sensor may be used for the continuous or automatic monitoring of a level of an analyte, such as glucose, lactate, or oxygen, in a patient. The electrochemical analyte sensor includes a substrate and conductive material disposed on the substrate, the conductive material forming a working electrode. In some sensors, the conductive material is disposed in recessed channels formed in a surface of the sensor. An electron transfer agent and/or catalyst may be provided to facilitate the electrolysis of the analyte or of a second compound whose level depends on the level of the analyte. A potential is formed between the working electrode and a reference electrode or counter/reference electrode and the resulting current is a function of the concentration of the analyte in the body fluid.

  • Patent number: 8704847
Abstract: Display systems and image processing methods process pre-subpixel rendered images embedded in input color image data. The display systems include a pre-subpixel rendered (P-SPR) image detector that detects locations of a marking code that marks the portion of the input data that has been pre-subpixel rendered and which is ready for direct display. Several display system embodiments comprise first and second image data paths; the input data that requires subpixel rendering proceeds along the first path while the P-SPR image data proceeds along the second path. Another display system embodiment processes the combined input and P-SPR data along a single data path. Techniques for marking and detecting P-SPR image data using two distinct marking codes are presented in the context of the subpixel layout of the display. Techniques for using P-SPR data to display high-quality graphical symbols (e.g., font glyphs) are suitable for small, low-cost display devices.

  • Patent number: 8701760
Abstract: A method for using RF energy to facilitate the production of oil from formations separated from the RF energy source by a rock stratum comprises operating an antenna to transmit RF energy into a hydrocarbon formation, the hydrocarbon formation comprised of a first hydrocarbon portion above and adjacent to the antenna, a second hydrocarbon portion above the first hydrocarbon portion, and a rock stratum between the first hydrocarbon portion and the second hydrocarbon portion. The operation of the antenna heats water in the hydrocarbon formation to produce steam in the hydrocarbon formation, and the steam heats hydrocarbons in the hydrocarbon formation and fractures the rock stratum to produce fissures in the rock stratum. The heated hydrocarbons in the second hydrocarbon portion flows into the first hydrocarbon portion through the fissures in the rock stratum.
