The present invention also provides methods of treating or lessening the severity of such disorders wherein said method comprises administering to a patient a compound of the present invention, or composition thereof. Said method is useful for treating or lessening the severity of, for example, Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract: A method of cutting a work-piece to be cut by a laser beam, in which an incident laser beam is generated that has an initial beam parameter product (BPP), given by means of a laser source, preferably an ytterbium-doped or erbium-doped fiber laser source, coupled to at least one optical fiber for conveying the beam. Said incident laser beam is brought to a focusing head comprising at least one optical focusing device. The incident laser beam is focused by means of said optical focusing device, so as to obtain a focused laser beam, and the work-piece is cut by means of the focused laser beam. According to the invention, the quality factor of the incident laser beam is adjusted or modified by means of an optical device designed to be able to modify or vary the BPP of a laser beam so as to obtain a modified focused laser beam having a modified BPP which is different from the BPP of said incident laser beam. Abstract: User privacy is preserved in response to user interactions with information items, such as advertisements, by controlling the behavior of a user's computer. Information items are associated with item response specifiers. Item response specifiers control the behaviors of the user's computer in response to user interactions with information items. Item response specifiers may be communicated to the user's computer with the associated information items or be retrieved separately by the user's computer from an information item broker or trusted third party. Item response specifiers may be cryptographically signed to ensure their integrity. Following a user interaction with an information item, the user's computer refers to the item response specifier to determine an appropriate privacy-preserving post-interaction behavior.

Abstract: Apparatus connects a pump to a chamber of a heart. A cuff attaches to the heart, the cuff having a flange portion for attaching to a surface of the heart and a sleeve portion extending from the flange portion. An inflow conduit has a first end for inserting into the heart, an intermediate portion for attaching to the sleeve portion of the cuff, and a second end for conveying blood from the heart to the pump. An expansion tool is releasably mounted with the inflow conduit to slide longitudinally within the inflow conduit. The expansion tool has a blunt tip for punching through the heart into the chamber at a distal end and a manual grip at a proximal end for pulling the expansion tool out from the inflow conduit.

Abstract: A method for identifying aptamers that bind to target molecules may include contacting an oligonucleotide library with target molecule and digesting unbound oligonucleotides with one or more endonucleases, one or more exonucleases, or one or more endonucleases in combination with one or more exonucleases. The unbound oligonucletides lend themselves to nuclease digestion because their flanking sequences are complementary and form predictable, terminal, secondary structure (a Lariat Aptamer). Bound molecules (aptamers) are protected from nuclease digestion and become enriched. A method for identifying aptamers may further include optionally subjecting selected aptamers to one or more rounds of selection under conditions of increased stringency. A method for identifying aptamers may include yet further amplifying selected aptamers.

Abstract: A telecommunications system having a format converter provides bi-directional communications between TDM signals on one side and ATM signals on the other. An ATM aggregate receives and transmits ATM signals, and a TDM interface receives and transmits TDM signals. The format converter has an ATM bus and a TDM bus connected to their respective interfaces, and service-specific adapters are connected between the ATM bus and the TDM bus.

Abstract: Fuel is injected into and through the exhaust port and into the cylinder of the piston engine during the time when the flow is reversed from the normally expected flow. The engine is able to operate with some or all of its fuel injected backwards of conventional expectations. In another embodiment the fuel is injected with solid stream injector sprays directed against exhaust valves and ports and deflected into the piston cylinder against the flow of normally aspirated or supercharged engines. This invention can apply to gasoline or diesel cycles and four and two stroke type cycles of engine.

Abstract: A chewy and intermediate moisture bar is provided that uses a dairy-based binder generally without the need to employ gums, humectants, and sugar syrups as a binder to achieve the moist and chewy texture. In one aspect, the bar includes a dry base uniformly blended with a dairy-based binder that uses high levels of dairy proteins as the main binding component. A method of forming the chewy and intermediate moisture bar is also provided that may use a lay or delay period to allow moisture equilibration or migration from the binder to the dry base.

Abstract: Process for the joint production of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate out of trona, comprising introducing and dissolving crushed trona ore is introduced and dissolved in a leaching tank containing a solution comprising sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate, saturated in sodium bicarbonate, in order to produce solid particles suspended in a production solution comprising sodium carbonate, the solid particles containing insoluble impurities and at least 65% in weight of sodium bicarbonate; separating the solid particles from the production solution containing sodium carbonate; drying and valorizing the separated solid particles; taking at least part of the production solution containing sodium carbonate out of the leaching tank in order to constitute a produced solution which is valorized; and introducing water in the leaching tank.

Abstract: A weld electrical and gas connector with sealed gas flow is provided. In an exemplary embodiment, a welding cable connector system includes a male connector having a conductive body for conveying welding power. The male connector includes a sealed passageway disposed coaxially of the conductive body for conveying shielding gas, and a gas sealing valve configured to seat to stop flow of shielding gas when the male connector is not engaged. The system also includes a female connector having a conductive body for conveying welding power. The female connector includes a sealed passageway disposed coaxially of the conductive body for conveying shielding gas, and a gas sealing valve configured to seat to stop flow of shielding gas when the female connector is not engaged. The male and female connectors are mutually engageable to conduct welding power and shielding gas therethrough.

The provision of a rotatable barometer allows the use of a barometric fluid of a density lower than that of mercury to be used, thereby enabling the use of mercury to be avoided.

Abstract: An ink jet printhead module adapted for use in a printing apparatus, the ink jet printhead module being capable of receiving address signals and chip selection signals from a printhead drive unit of the printing apparatus. The printhead module includes chip control circuits, each being capable of receiving the address signals and receiving a corresponding one of the chip selection signals. Each chip control circuit includes switching circuits and an ink jetting circuit set. Each switching circuit is capable of receiving a corresponding one of the address signals and the corresponding one of chip selection signals and outputting a switching signal. An ink jetting circuit set includes ink jetting circuits, each being capable of receiving the switching signal from the corresponding switching circuit electrically coupled to the ink jetting circuit and determining whether or not to jet out ink based on the received switching signal.

This embodiment features discovering components in the IT system, determining at least one dependency between two or more of the discovered components, and tracking changes to the discovered components and the dependency between two or more of the discovered components. The discovery of components can be carried out using fingerprints of components, which can include key elements of the component that exist in a full model of all of the elements of the component.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are point mutations in the LMNA gene that cause HGPS. These mutations activate a cryptic splice site within the LMNA gene, which leads to deletion of part of exon 11 and generation of a mutant Lamin A protein product that is 50 amino acids shorter than the normal protein. In addition to the novel Lamin A variant protein and nucleic acids encoding this variant, methods of using these molecules in detecting biological conditions associated with a LMNA mutation in a subject (e.g., HGPS, arteriosclerosis, and other age-related diseases), methods of treating such conditions, methods of selecting treatments, methods of screening for compounds that influence Lamin A activity, and methods of influencing the expression of LMNA or LMNA variants are also described.

In a multi-level hierarchical file storage system within the data processing system wherein one or more files may be active, only those files, which are active, are initially proffered as candidates for attachment in response to a user's indicated desire to attach a file to an electronic mail message. If the user fails to select an active file for attachment, the user is prompted to select a file from the multi-level hierarchical file storage system for attachment. After attachment, the electronic mail message and attachment are transmitted.

In this manner, thermal resistance within a gap formed between solidifying cast metal and the interior mold surface is decreased. In one embodiment, the facecoat region is formed from a slurry composition comprising an aluminum oxide, a green chromium oxide and a silicon dioxide. In another embodiment, the facecoat region is formed from a slurry composition including zirconium silicate and silica with stucco layer of alumina is included.

Abstract: A data entry system includes a hand held data entry unit having a reading sensor for sensing commands and/or data, rewritable storage for storing information relating to selectable items, a controller (a microprocessor or other processing circuitry) and a display screen for displaying a user readable representation of the commands and/or stored information for a selected item, and a telecommunication interface for the telephonic transmission of information relating to a selected item or items from the storage to a remote processing center and for the telephonic information relating to selectable items from the remote processing center to the storage. Preferably a telecommunications interface is provided in the hand held unit for cellular or other wireless telephony systems. The hand held unit can be configured to combine the data entry functions with those of audio telephony.

Abstract: A mobile device accumulates energy associated with each of successive PSS transmissions received from a base station. Accumulated energy values may be rescaled by a same number of bits whenever a buffer overflow condition occurs within the accumulation buffer. The mobile device may detect a correct PSS timing hypothesis utilizing the rescaled accumulated energy values within the accumulation buffer. A significant bit such as, for example, the most significant bit (MSB) or one of lesser significant bits, of each of the accumulated energy values may be monitored during the energy accumulation process to detect a buffer overflow condition. The mobile device may determine number of bits for rescaling or right shift each of the accumulated energy values in response to the detected buffer overflow condition. The resulting shifted accumulated energy values may be utilized for PSS detection. Either an integrating or filtering method is utilized during the energy accumulation process.

Abstract: A system for accessing scheduling information. In one illustrative embodiment, a user can log into a phone system by entering their extension number and passcode, which allows the phone to assume their profile. The user then enters the credentials required to access their PC based calendar information, which is stored by a server application. The server application can look up the scheduling information that is stored in the user's PC based calendar application on a message server. The information can then be provided to the phone by the server application where it is displayed. Application programming interfaces can facilitate communications between the phone and the server application and the server application and the message server. Other information located on the message server can also be retrieved through the server application and is not limited to scheduling information.
