  • Publication number: 20130229187
Abstract: A measuring device is used in conjunction with a programmable controller for monitoring electrolyte levels in the battery. According to one implementation, the measuring device is located in a battery and is configured to detect when the electrolyte level in the battery falls below a particular level. The controller is in electrical communication with the electrolyte detection device. The controller is configured to: (i) receive a signal from the electrolyte level detection device indicating when the electrolyte level in the battery has fallen below the particular level; (ii) introduce a wait-period after the signal is received; and (iii) enable an indicator to indicate that the electrolyte level in the battery should be refilled when the wait-period expires.

  • Publication number: 20130232269
Abstract: A method, system, and computer programming product for returning a response directly to a transaction request originator in a customer information control system (CICS) is provided. The method can include receiving a transaction request in a CICS and allocating resources in the CICS in response to receiving the transaction request. The method additionally can include determining whether the CICS is an intended endpoint of the transaction request. Finally, the method can include extracting an address of an originator of the transaction request from the transaction request and sending a response to the originator at the extracted address upon determining that the CICS is the intended endpoint of the transaction request, but otherwise routing the transaction request to a different CICS along with the address within the transaction request.

  • Patent number: 8525110
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention pertain to an apparatus that provides four simultaneous ion and neutral measurements as a function of altitude with variable sensitivity for neutral atmospheric species. The variable sensitivity makes it possible to extend the measurements over the altitude range of 100 to more than 700 kilometers. The four instruments included in the apparatus are a neutral wind-temperature spectrometer, an ion-drift ion-temperature spectrometer, a neutral mass spectrometer, and an ion mass spectrometer. The neutral wind-temperature spectrometer and ion-drift ion-temperature spectrometer are configured to separate O and N2 and O+ from H+ while the neutral mass spectrometer and the ion mass spectrometer are configured to separate mass with a resolution of one in sixty-four to enable metallic ion identification in the lower thermosphere.

  • Patent number: 8527650
Abstract: A computer implemented method, computer program product, and system for creating a checkpoint of a stream. A stream checkpoint request to create the checkpoint of the stream is received, wherein the stream is used by a process as a communications path, and wherein the communications path is modified by a set of modules. In response to identifying the identity of each module in the set of modules, the identity of each module in the set of modules is stored in the checkpoint. In response to identifying an order of the set of modules, the order of the set of modules is stored in the checkpoint. In response to sending a stream checkpoint message to each module in the set of modules, module data is received from each module in the set of modules to form received module data. The received module data is stored in the checkpoint.

  • Patent number: 8525721
Abstract: A redundant signed digit (RSD) analog to digital converter (ADC) receives a high voltage (VRH) and a low voltage (VRL) for use in converting an input signal to a digital signal. A doubling circuit receives the input signal and doubles the input signal to provide a doubled input signal using an amplifier and a first capacitor. The first capacitor has a capacitance of a first magnitude. A VR circuit continues processing the doubled input signal to provide a 2VR signal. A Vref circuit (VR+C5 and C6) provides a first RSD residue signal that is equal to a sum of a reference Vref and the 2VR signal. The first RSD residue signal is produced using the amplifier, a second capacitor, and the high power supply voltage. The second capacitor has a capacitance equal to half that of the first capacitor.

  • Patent number: 8527118
Abstract: Control systems and methods of use provide for fully automated phases of flight of an aircraft. Such fully automated phases include takeoff, cruising flight, and landing without the need for operator input or other operator intervention. Control systems and methods also provide for self-limited compliance with an operators desired deviation from a predetermined flight path, as well as automatic contingency response to non-normal conditions. Onboard and/or ground-based operators may cooperate with the control system in order to control the associated aircraft. Furthermore, an operator need not have any flight skill in order to affect changes in the flight path or other aspects of flight control.

  • Patent number: 8526812
Abstract: The path selection and wavelength assignment to a selected path are performed by mapping the wavelength reach to the demand distribution (agile reach) resulting in a 50-60% increase in the network reach. The network reach is further increased (about 2.2 times) when on-line measured performance data are used for path selection and wavelength assignment. The connections may be engineered/upgraded individually, by optimizing the parameters of the entire path or of a regenerator section of the respective path. The upgrades include changing the wavelength, adjusting the parameters of the regenerator section, controlling the launch powers, mapping a certain transmitter and/or receiver to the respective wavelength, selecting the wavelengths on a certain link so as to reduce cross-talk, increasing wavelength spacing, etc.

  • Patent number: 8526313
Abstract: A communication system extending Ethernet Operation and Management (OAM) Loopback Message (LBM) and Loopback Replay (LBR) functionality into a time division multiplexing (TDM) domain has a first interworking function (IWF) of an Ethernet network that transmits an Ethernet Operation and Management (OAM) Loopback Message (LBM) having a first type length value (TLV) field. The first IWF controls the first TLV field to indicate that a connectivity test is to extend beyond the Ethernet network. The communication system further has a second IWF of the Ethernet network that receives the Ethernet OAM LBM and interprets the first TLV field. In addition, the second IWF performs a TDM connectivity test across a TDM connection in response to the Ethernet OAM LBM and based on the first TLV field and transmits a reply for the Ethernet OAM LBM to the first IWF, the reply prompted by the LBM and comprising data based on the TDM connectivity test.

  • Patent number: 8526236
Abstract: Methods for programming, memory devices, and memory systems are disclosed. In one such method for programming, a target memory cell is partially programmed to a final target programmed state where the partial programming is verified by applying a ramped voltage having a first voltage range (e.g., where the first voltage range is selected in response to program coupling effects from memory cells adjacent to the target memory cell.) A programming operation following the partial programming operation is performed on one or more adjacent memory cells which is then followed by additional programming of the target memory cell to adjust the memory cell from the partially programmed state to the final programmed state. A ramped voltage having a second voltage range different from the first voltage range is utilized to verify the programming of the target memory cell to the final programmed state.

  • Patent number: 8527744
Abstract: Methods, systems and program products provide platform customization in building of Unified Extensible Firmware Interface based Personal Computer firmware, typically but not essentially as BIOS. Provision is made for a conceptual matrix of Board module, Silicon (or chipset) modules together with core and foundation modules; this supersedes prior approaches that are often based on hierarchical (or inverse hierarchy) structured source codes. A Platform module resides architecturally between Silicon and Board modules. By largely removing the Platform module found in previously developed solutions and introducing a Board module OEM, customizations are separated from actual platform code (and also from core functions). This allows the customization footprint to be much smaller thus easing the programming efforts of porting products to reflect hardware development.

  • Patent number: 8524120
Abstract: Single pellets of a thermoplastic resin containing long glass fibers and a conductive filler are set forth that enable molded articles made from these pellets to exhibit conductivity and, at the same time, high mechanical properties. These pellets have mechanical properties that are substantially equivalent to non-conductive pellets of a thermoplastic resin containing same loading of long glass and provide conductivity that is substantially equivalent to articles obtained by blending two kinds of pellets, one pellet having a conductive filler and the other pellet one containing long glass fibers. The pellets include a thermoplastic resin, a long fiber reinforcing filler and a conductive additive dispersed in the pellet.
