  • Publication number: 20120036147
Abstract: A computer network-based messaging system controls the content of messages sent by users. A database includes permitted words and replacement text elements corresponding to at least one permitted word. A message filter receives an entered word or phrase input by a user on a messaging device as part of a message. The message filter replaces the entered word in the message with a corresponding replacement text element stored in the database. A message sending part transmits the message including the replacement text element over a data network for viewing by other users only if every entered word in the message is included in the database. The message sending part transmits the message even though one or words contained in the replacement text element are not permitted words in the database. The system may allow deletion of a replacement text element from a message only in its entirety.

  • Publication number: 20120034335
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and an apparatus for the production of three-dimensionally thin products using injection moulding of polymer based material. By dividing one of the mould halves in at least two groups of elements, whereby at least a first group of at least one element forms a rim cavity and a stop, defined as an area of the element contacting the other halve if the mould is in the closed position, and at least a second group of at least one element forms the main body part of the cavity, whereby all the elements together form with the other mould halve one cavity, and whereby each of the groups of elements is connected to its own means for clamping, it is possible to produce a set of different products with a constant rim thickness and a variable thickness of the main body part of the product.

  • Publication number: 20120031701
Abstract: A speed responsive engagement device for use in a fall arrest system has a ratchet wheel having outwardly projecting spaced apart teeth and a pawl arranged for pivotal movement to engage the ratchet wheel teeth. The pawl and the ratchet wheel are rotatable relative to one another such that when relative rotation occurs between the ratchet wheel and the pawl in a first direction the pawl contacts the ratchet wheel, generating an oscillating movement of the pawl with an amplitude dependent on the speed of the rotation, and when the speed of rotation reaches a predetermined value the increased oscillating movement causes the pawl to move into the engaged orientation brakingly engaging with the ratchet wheel teeth preventing further relative rotation between the ratchet wheel and the pawl in the first direction. A biasing arrangement arranged to bias the pawl towards the disengaged orientation.

  • Publication number: 20120034067
Abstract: A turbocompressor for use with a process fluid and including an axial expansion turbine for expanding the process fluid and a centrifugal compressor for compressing the process fluid. The turbine and compressor share a common shaft, all of which can be housed by a common housing that encloses sealed spaces. The axial expansion turbine has a rotor located between two main bearings, and the centrifugal compressor includes an impeller mounted to one end of the shaft. In one embodiment, the main bearings are lubricated by a portion of the process fluid so that the only fluid in the sealed spaces is the process fluid. The turbocompressor can be used in a power-cycle system that includes a heat source and, optionally, an electrical generator.

  • Patent number: 8111247
Abstract: A system and method changes touch screen functionality based on whether a user is detected during camera operation. A first camera generates a video signal containing a representation of at least a portion of a scene within a field of view of the first camera. A controller analyzes the video signal to determine whether one or more physical features of a user of the electronic device are present within the field of view of the first camera. A touch input device includes one or more touch points for receiving user input, each touch point being associated with controlling a respective one of a plurality of functions of the second camera. At least one of the touch points is associated with controlling a shutter function of a second camera, and a total number of touch points is dependent upon a result of the video signal analysis made by the controller.

  • Patent number: 8109117
Abstract: A method and device for bending superposed sheets of glass. The sheets are picked up by a top form furnished with a suction creating an upward airflow blowing over the rim of the sheets, the suction being sufficient to lift and hold the superposed sheets against the top form, then the sheets are pressed between the top form and a full surface solid concave bottom form furnished with openings, the pressing beginning conducted while the suction is not yet finished or is finishing, then the superposed sheets are formed, by suction of the main face of the bottom sheet through the openings of the bottom concave mold, the forming by suction beginning while the pressing is not yet finished, and then the sheets are cooled. Windshields free of optical defects may thus be produced.

  • Patent number: 8109935
Abstract: An implant inserter device having an outer collar, an inner sleeve slidably and rotatably received within the outer collar, and a push rod slidably received within the inner sleeve. The outer collar has at least one cammed surface formed on an interior surface thereof, while the inner sleeve has at least one rib projecting outwardly from an exterior surface thereof. The rib is releasably engageable with the cammed surface when the inner sleeve is rotated relative to the outer collar. As a result, a distal end of the inner sleeve collapses from an undeformed position, in which the inner sleeve does not grip an implant housed therein, and a deformed position, in which the inner sleeve grips the implant. The push rod is movable between an extended position and a retracted position for urging the implant through and from the inner sleeve for insertion into a defect in damaged cartilage and bone.

  • Patent number: 8112791
Abstract: Methods and apparatus include securely launching a web browser from a privileged process of a workstation to minimize enterprise vulnerabilities. The workstation includes a web browser pointed toward a web server and a Logon API for use with a password/credential. An executable file is wrapped about the browser and imposes restrictions, such as preventing the writing to a registry or installing ActiveX controls. It also has functionality to prevent users from linking to web locations in other than an https protocol or following links beyond an original host. Upon indication of a forgotten password/credential, a DLL logs onto a user account which invokes the executable file to launch the web browser in the https protocol. Upon authentication of identity, the user changes their password/credential for later logging-on to the workstation via the Logon API, but in a capacity without the limited functionality or the imposed browser restrictions.

  • Patent number: 8112625
Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for secure transaction management and electronic rights protection. Electronic appliances such as computers equipped in accordance with the present invention help to ensure that information is accessed and used only in authorized ways, and maintain the integrity, availability, and/or confidentiality of the information. Such electronic appliances provide a distributed virtual distribution environment (VDE) that may enforce a secure chain of handling and control, for example, to control and/or meter or otherwise monitor use of electronically stored or disseminated information. Such a virtual distribution environment may be used to protect rights of various participants in electronic commerce and other electronic or electronic-facilitated transactions. Distributed and other operating systems, environments and architectures, such as, for example, those using tamper-resistant hardware-based processors, may establish security at each node.

  • Patent number: 8112392
Abstract: A method may include identifying a virtualized application that has a read-only virtualization sublayer and a read-write virtualization sublayer. The read-only virtualization sublayer may represent a base state of the virtualized application and the read-write virtualization sublayer may be configured to store changes to the base state of the virtualized application. The method may also include determining a first difference between the read-only virtualization sublayer and the read-write virtualization sublayer at a first point in time and using the first difference between the read-only virtualization sublayer and the read-write virtualization sublayer to create a first snapshot that represents a state of the virtualized application at the first point in time. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8111873
Abstract: A method for tracking objects in a scene being viewed by a sequence of digital images comprises: separating a region of interest in the digital images into a plurality of spatially smaller, overlapping modules, and defining a hidden Markov model for each module. The method further comprises observing detections of positions of possible objects at different times, considering a set of states at a point of time (t1) such that the set of states comprises a state having a global optimum probability, and backtracking through the sequence of digital images for each hidden Markov model to shrink the set of states that are possible for earlier parts of the sequence of digital images, such that a single optimal state is found for an earlier point of time (t2<t1), whereby tracks of detected objects through the scene are determined up to the earlier point of time (t2).
