  • Patent number: 4184816
Abstract: An edge controlled fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines, whose axially and rotationally movable pump piston, guided within the pump cylinder, has an improved leakage oil return system, which avoids piston wear and increased oil leakage even under very high injection pressures and relatively short piston strokes. The pump piston has an annular leakage oil collecting groove next to, but separate from, the recess that serves to end the fuel delivery, and a plurality of narrow leakage oil return grooves, which are formed in the outer surface of the piston diametrically opposite the recess and are connected with the collecting groove. Of these leakage oil return grooves, at least one is always connected with a leakage oil bore in the pump cylinder to a chamber of low pressure in the pump during the useful stroke of the piston.

  • Patent number: 4184281
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a live bait well for a fishing vessel which occupies normally unusable space on the stern by being conveniently located beneath the main fisherman's chair. The bait well is comprised of a circular tub body with a segmented closable see-through top and having a concentric sleeve passing through the tub body to define an annular water compartment so that the entire assembly can be set in place to encircle the upright fisherman's chair support pedestal which is secured to the deck. Sea water is fed into the bottom of the tub body from remotely located pumps located in the machinery space below the main deck. The sea water is fed into the tub body in such a fashion that a unidirectional current is established in a circular pattern between the sleeve and the outer tub body wall.

  • Patent number: 4184354
Abstract: This invention is directed to a system for the transportation and storage of heavy goods of bulky dimensions and, in particular, coiled metal trackway which, during manufacture, is formed in rolls and requires movement between fabricating stations and intermediate storage stations under conditions where high space storage is the preferred arrangement. High space storage areas having narrow sides but not directly interconnected and in abutting arrangement are located in equi-axial fashion along a central longitudinal transportation pathway having low level workshops adjoining this pathway. Also adjoining this central transportation pathway are manufacturing stations which are disposed in transverse relation to the central pathway. Overhead transportation trucks transfer bundles of metal sheets from high space storage to fabricating stations, including rolling mills and cutting machines, for forming the sheets and cutting into the final product in the form of bundles.

  • Patent number: 4183580
Abstract: A children's seating arrangement for use in vehicles comprises a seat portion pivotably mounted between the upper free ends of a U-shaped bow of rigid material, the lower horizontal end of the bow being releasably mounted in a locking-type floor-mounted fixture and the length of the side arms of the bow being longitudinally adjustable by means of a threaded arrangement on each such arm. The height of the seat can therefore be suitably adjusted, as can the angular position of the seat, and the entire assembly easily removed and replaced by operating the detachable locking means.

  • Patent number: 4183344
Abstract: An internal combustion engine comprises an engine unit support and a crankcase which parts are connected by a resonance-absorbing element. The engine parts located above the resonance-absorbing element are encased by a noise-suppressing encapsulation. The exhaust pipe and the inlet pipe penetrate the encapsulation without touching it and are connected to the cylinderhead by vibration-insulating couplings. Supporting arms are provided which support the exhaust and the inlet pipes. The supporting arms are secured to the crankcase which is freed from body resonance due to the resonance-absorbing element. The supporting arms take over all holding and vibration forces so that the vibration-insulating couplings may be designed very soft in the sense of optimal vibration insulation.

  • Patent number: 4184087
Abstract: A window discriminator or voltage range sensor has an input for receiving a d.c. voltage to be sensed and an output for providing a signal when the voltage at the sensor input falls within a predetermined range. The sensor employs a differential switch which has first and second inputs and an output which is coupled to the sensor output. A biasing arrangement is coupled with the first input and is adapted to provide a bias voltage which is substantially independent of the voltage at the sensor input. A circuit is coupled between the sensor input and the second input to the differential switch and is arranged to provide at the second input a voltage related to the sensor input voltage, which voltage effects switching of the differential switch to one state when the d.c. input voltage reaches a predetermined lower level and to the other state when the voltage reaches a level determined by the bias voltage.

  • Patent number: 4183389
Abstract: A heavy duty pneumatic tire includes a carcass having a crown region and a tread portion surrounding the crown region. A reinforcement belt is disposed circumferentially about the crown region between the carcass and the tread. The reinforcement belt includes a first ply of tire cord fabric with two free lateral edge portions folded over upon itself to form two skirts and a main portion. The cords in the first ply are steel and lie at an angle of from about 16.degree. to about 32.degree. with respect to the equatorial plane of the tire. A second ply of tire cord fabric is superimposed upon the first ply. The cords in the second ply are of textile composition and are disposed at an angle of substantially 0.degree. with respect to the equatorial plane of the tire. The second ply fetters or restrains the first ply onto the carcass and imparts to the carcass a substantially flat cross-sectional configuration in the crown region.

  • Patent number: 4182122
Abstract: An exhaust manifold for an internal combustion engine is provided with internal insulation so as to maintain the outside skin temperature preferably below 450.degree. F. The manifold is provided with an exhaust conduit or lining that is comprised of interfitting relatively axially movable sections in contact with the exhaust gases. A low specific gravity or porous sleeve of insulating material is fitted in slightly spaced relationship around the exhaust conduit. The sleeve of insulating material may be wrapped to prevent the metal of the outer cast manifold housing from penetrating the insulation. Each section of the exhaust conduit has a branch for connection to a flanged nipple which is permitted some limited movement relative to the manifold housing when connected to the exhaust ports of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4182567
Abstract: A continuous processor for exposed webs of photographic paper has several tanks and a system of hoses which connect the outlets in the lower portions with the inlets in the upper portions of the tanks. The liquid developer is circulated by a pump and is heated by a heater before it reaches the inlets. The pressure of liquid in the system of hoses is monitored by two pressure responsive switches which cause a control unit to arrest the motor of the pump and to deactivate the heater when the pressure drops below or rises above a range of acceptable pressures. The pressure drops in response to leakage of developer, and the pressure rises in response to clogging of a filter which is installed in the system of hoses between the heater and the inlets of the tanks.
