  • Patent number: 5341901
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved lubrication system for power transfer devices which increases the flow of lubrication along an axial bore formed within a rotating shaft. In the present invention, a rotor is disposed within the bore of a rotating shaft and secured to rotate with the shaft. The rotor acts to draw substantially more lubrication along the bore than would be drawn due to the centrifugal effect alone.

  • Patent number: 5339910
Abstract: Rotary drag during drilling is reduced by 1) adding roller bearings to a tubular string and drill bit, and/or 2) adding a bearing assembly to the tubular string, and/or 3) adding a rotary discoupling tool to the tubular string. At the drill bit, this is achieved by miniature rollers built into the gauge section. Along the drill string periodic roller bearings or bearing standoff assemblies are placed along the string length and/or a rotary discoupling tool capable of sealing fluid and transmitting compression and tensile loads is placed in the string. The combination minimizes bit whirl and rotational drag, especially during the drilling of extended reach wellbores.

  • Patent number: 5337312
Abstract: There is provided a method of regulating access to a unidirectional bus transmission system to which a plurality of stations identified by labels are connected, on which system data are transmitted in time slots which are released in numbered cycles by a headend unit, and in which said headend unit sends, for each of said cycles, a request poll message carrying the respective cycle number. The method comprises i) logically combining a source station label and a destination station label, ii) deriving a first control number from the logical combination of the source station label and the destination station label, iii) using, for requesting slots in which to transmit said data, a request poll message carrying a cycle number which corresponds to said first control number, and iv) subsequently transmitting said data in slots of a cycle whose number corresponds to said first control number.

  • Patent number: 5336150
Abstract: A pneumatic strength training device that utilizes a sealed vacuum cylinder with an air pressure powered piston. The vacuum is obtained by removing the air from said cylinder and sealing said cylinder. The cylinder is then attached to a lever style lifting bar through a series of pulleys. The resistance encountered by the lifter is varied by positioning the pulleys at different locations on the lifting bar.

  • Patent number: 5335532
Abstract: Both a method and an apparatus for the reduction of the load magnitudes present during the operation of a can body maker apparatus are provided through the use of a counterbalance mass structure system. A counterbalance structure is operatively associated with the crankshaft which motivates the can body maker ram assembly so that as the ram assembly is reciprocated along a straight line path during the formation of can bodies, the counterbalance structure is reciprocated to compensate for both the straight line (X axis) motion of the ram assembly as well as motion perpendicular thereto.

  • Patent number: 5332911
Abstract: A semiconductor radiation detector with layer-wise construction and a contive region having a two-dimensional or quasi one-dimensional electron or hole gas is provided in which adiabatic transport in edge channels occurs at least regionally and in which at least two contacts are provided to this conductive region. The transport in the edge channels is disturbed by interaction with the electromagnetic radiation to be detected, i.e. an increase of the scattering rate between the edge channels is caused. This leads to a change of the resistance measurable between the contacts, with a means being provided for measuring the change of resistance to thereby detect the incident radiation.

  • Patent number: 5329890
Abstract: A hydraulic control device for the rotation of the camshaft of an internal combustion engine has a sprocket wheel which is driven by the internal combustion engine and connected with the camshaft via a couple member, a spiral toothing and a straight toothing, so that a relative rotation of the drive wheel and camshaft is effected by displacement of the couple member. The couple member is displaced via a hydraulic piston which is acted upon by a radial piston pump arranged in the control device, sucking pressure medium out of a pressure medium reservoir arranged in the engine, and feeding it to the pressure spaces at the piston via outlet valves. A pressure control valve which can be acted upon electromagnetically is connected to one of the pressure spaces and can be opened by corresponding actuation of the electromagnet so that the pressure space at the piston is relieved.

  • Patent number: 5330792
Abstract: A method is provided for incorporating lubricant and a sintering aid into a metallurgical powder composition of iron-based powders. A particulate iron-based powder is contacted and wetted with solution of a metal salt of a fatty acid in an organic solvent. The solvent is removed to provide iron-based particles having a coating of the metal salt. • Patent number: 5329903
Abstract: A pivotable joint including a first part provided with pivot bores and a second part with resiliently mounted pivot pins received in said pivot bores such that the second part is pivotably mounted in a desired assembled position. The first part has a closed tubular cross section and may be a section of the intake manifold of an internal combustion engine. The resiliently mounted pivot pins are symmetrically mounted on opposite sides of the second part, which may be a throttle valve. The pivot pins are elastically displaceable axially during assembly of the first and second parts such that they snap resiliently into the pivot bores of the first part when the second part reaches the desired assembled position.
