  • Patent number: 9823492
Abstract: This invention discloses methods and apparatus for providing a variable optic insert into an ophthalmic lens. A liquid crystal layer may be used to provide a variable optic function and in some examples, an alignment layer for the liquid crystal layer may be patterned in a cycloidally dependent manner. The patterning may allow for a polarization dependent lens in some examples. An energy source is capable of powering the variable optic insert included within the ophthalmic lens. In some examples, an ophthalmic lens is cast-molded from a silicone hydrogel. The various ophthalmic lens entities may include electroactive liquid crystal layers to electrically control optical characteristics.

  • Patent number: 9821162
Abstract: In some examples, a medical device delivers electrical stimulation to the external portion of the globus pallidus of a brain of a patient in order to treat a sleep impairment of the patient. In some examples, the electrical stimulation may be delivered via one or more electrodes implanted in the GPe of the brain. In some examples, an electrical stimulation device is configured to deliver electrical stimulation therapy to the GPe based on detection of a sleep state of a patient. The sleep state may include, for example, a state in which the patient is awake and intending on sleeping, is awake and attempting to sleep or has initiated sleep. • Publication number: 20170329933
Abstract: Systems and methods for implementing and performing therapy-based workflows to assist a human user with performing health therapy activities are described. In various examples, therapy workflows involving the use of wearable or other personal electronic devices are described, including the use of various graphical user interfaces for assisting users with the performance of therapy activities. In an example, a computing device may evaluate profile characteristics of a human user, evaluate wearable sensor data originating from a wearable device worn by the human user, and obtain content from a content suggestion engine to be output during the therapy session based on the profile characteristics and the wearable sensor data. In further examples, the suggested activity content may be transmitted, displayed, and output to the human user in a graphical user interface during the therapy session, based on a duration and tinning determined by the content suggestion engine.

  • Publication number: 20170329506
Abstract: Workflows can be refactored using a visual workflow model, such as within a virtual programming environment. A selection of a group of activities in an existing workflow can be received. The group of activities can be duplicated into a new workflow. Thereafter, the group of activities can be parsed to identify at least one input variable used by the activities of the group and at least one output variable resulting from those activities. The input variables and output variables are then duplicated as inputs and outputs to the new workflow. The previously selected group of activities can be replaced in the existing workflow with an activity based on the new workflow. The input variables and output variables are then mapped to the respective inputs and outputs of that activity.

  • Publication number: 20170328003
Abstract: The present invention provides a pulp product (e.g., paper) comprising cellulose and nanocellulose, wherein the nanocellulose is derived from the cellulose in a mechanical and/or chemical step that is separate from the main pulping process. The pulping process may be thermomechanical pulping or hydrothermal-mechanical pulping, for example. The pulp product is stronger and smoother with the presence of the nanocellulose. The nanocellulose further can function as a retention aid, for a step of forming the pulp product (e.g., in a paper machine). Other embodiments provide a corrugated medium pulp composition comprising cellulose pulp and nanocellulose, wherein the nanocellulose includes cellulose nanofibrils and/or cellulose nanocrystals and the nanocellulose may be hydrophobic. The nanocellulose improves the strength properties of the corrugated medium. In some embodiments, the cellulose pulp is a GreenBox+® pulp and the nanocellulose is derived from the AVAP® process.
