  • Patent number: 6075275
Abstract: A method is shown for producing a PIN photodiode wherein an intrinsic layer of the photodiode can be made arbitrarily thin. A fabrication substrate is lightly doped to have a first conductivity type in order to form the intrinsic layer of the photodiode. A first active region of the photodiode having the first conductivity type is formed on a first surface of the fabrication substrate. An oxide layer is also formed upon the first surface of the fabrication substrate. A handling substrate is bonded to the first surface of the fabrication substrate. A second surface of the fabrication is then lapped to a obtain a preselected thickness of the intrinsic layer. And a second active region of the photodiode having a second conductivity type is formed on the second surface of the fabrication substrate.

  • Patent number: 6073464
Abstract: A laser surface method involves applying a laser beam treatment in one or several steps to a series of generally similar surfaces of given depth. Properties of the laser treatment are selected so as to change the physical state of each surface. Ellipsometry measurements are made in a region of the first surface before application of the laser beam treatment to the second surface, so as to obtain a physico-chemical characterization of the first surface. Both the laser beam application and the ellipsometry measurement are conducted under generally similar working conditions, so that the change of the physical state of each surface produced by the laser treatment can be controlled in a real time, in-situ, rapidly and nondestructively.

  • Patent number: 6073662
Abstract: A hook selection device for a weaving loom dobby head where the dobby includes a bottom board carrying hooks and an upper part for supporting the selection device. The upper part moves relative to the bottom board and includes rigid heald shafts provided with a catch corresponding to each hook on the bottom board. The position of each catch relative to a corresponding hook being controlled by an electromagnetic device having a coil. Each rigid heald shaft has a portion made of magnetic material and is mounted on the upper part so as to pivot about a pin. The selection device creates a permanent magnetic field in a region of the selection device having the heald shaft. The coil and permanent magnetic field drive the heald shaft to pivot either into a first position to permit entrainment of a catch and corresponding hook and a second position which does not permit entrainment.

  • Patent number: 6075327
Abstract: A power supply circuit for a discharge lamp, in particular for a motor vehicle headlight, provides pulse starting. The circuit comprises a DC to AC converter giving an AC output at its secondary winding, together with a starting circuit which includes a transformer having a secondary winding in series with the discharge lamp. The apparatus further includes a branch which is connected in parallel with the secondary winding of the starter circuit transformer. At the frequency prevailing when an arc has been established in the discharge lamp, this branch has an impedance which is less than that of the secondary winding, so that the current then flows mainly in this branch.

  • Patent number: 6074704
Abstract: Sheets to be coated with water-based coating material, for example a primer and a low adhesion backsize, are supplied from a feeder (1), in end-to-end overlapping relationship, to a dual coater (3) in which the sheets are coated individually on both sides. A sheet inserter (2) is provided, upstream of the dual coater, to insert sheets from a second supply into the sheets from the feeder (1). The dual coated sheets are dried as individual sheets or as a pseudo-web of overlapped sheets, The sheets are then overlapped, unless previously overlapped, and the direction of overlap changed, if necessary, to provide the trailing edge of each sheet on top of the leading edge of each succeeding sheet. The overlapped sheets are conveyed through an adhesive transfer station (7) where stripes (236) of at least partially dried adhesive are coated onto the dual coated sheets from a transfer belt (71).
