  • Publication number: 20090080346
Abstract: A method for point-to-point ethernet communication over point-to-multipoint shared single conductor channel topology comprises transmitting an ethernet signal upstream over the point-to-multipoint topology from one end point of the topology to the root of the topology, transmitting the ethernet signal downstream over the point-to-multipoint topology from the root of the topology to all end points of the topology, and selectively processing only at a designated end point the ethernet signal received at all end points. An ethernet system may comprise single conductor channel cabling (e.g., coaxial cabling) including a trunk line and a plurality of branch lines connecting to the trunk line at a plurality of points along the trunk line, a single root transceiver (root-PHY) connected at an end of the trunk line, and a plurality of end point transceivers (EP-PHYs), each connected to a respective one of the plurality of branch lines.

  • Publication number: 20090072981
Abstract: A fire detection system for monitoring a volume containing fluid, typically air, for the presence of smoke particles is disclosed. A conduit for receiving the fluid, and any smoke particles therein, and directing the fluid to a smoke detector has a plurality of inlets formed therein. A respective temperature sensor is associated with each of the inlets which generate a signal indicative of a change in temperature in the region of the inlet. In the embodiments, the temperature sensor comprises one or more fibre Bragg gratings. The fibre Bragg gratings preferably have different grating periods. The reflected light from each fibre Bragg grating is returned back down the fibre optic cable and redirected via a 2×1 coupler to a wavelength detection system and a personal computer.

  • Publication number: 20090075403
Abstract: The present invention relates to monitoring chemicals in a process chamber using a spectrometer having a plasma generator, based on patterns over time of chemical consumption. The relevant patterns may include a change in consumption, reaching a consumption plateau, absence of consumption, or presence of consumption. In some embodiments, advancing to a next step in forming structures on the workpiece depends on the pattern of consumption meeting a process criteria. In other embodiments, a processing time standard is established, based on analysis of the relevant patterns. Yet other embodiments relate to controlling work on a workpiece, based on analysis of the relevant patterns. The invention may be either a process or a device including logic and resources to carry out a process.

  • Publication number: 20090077152
Abstract: A system for handling denormal floating point operands when the result must be normalized. A leading zero counter (lzc) on the operand B (opB) is used to limit alignment shifts when opB is denormal but is much greater than the product of operands A and C, i.e. AC. By limiting the additional shift of B during normalization, by the number of leading zeros in opB, no increase is needed in the output bus of the alignment shifter. Furthermore, the additional shift may be done either in the alignment shifter, or postponed to a later stage in the pipeline, where the result is normalized.

  • Publication number: 20090077371
Abstract: An encryption management system provides a solution for embedded system device authentication, secure server-to-device communications, and encryption key management. It reduces implementation times and costs associated with using cryptography for authentication and data privacy with embedded systems applications by freeing application developers from having to develop, manage, or update security-based features in their server-based applications. The template-based approach of the system provides highly customable and accessible security functionalities. To utilize services provided by the encryption management system in some embodiments, calling applications provide input parameters and function calls in the form of a template at runtime, and the output in the form of encrypted and secured messages are either sent to the client devices automatically or returned to the calling applications.

  • Publication number: 20090071620
Abstract: Die casting of some magnesium alloys may yield castings that are susceptible to corrosion when exposed to salt water or other aggressive oxidizing environments. Such corrosion may result from the existence of different microstructures in a cross-section of the die casting (e.g. between the surface of the part and the center) that produce galvanic couples that are susceptible to such corrosive attack. However, a die temperature may be determined for casting of the part such that a more uniform cross-sectional microstructure is produced in which minimal or negligible galvanic potentials are produced.

  • Publication number: 20090067608
Abstract: Telephone users desiring directory assistance services are connected via standard telephone procedures to a directory assistance provider, such as an operator. An operator provides the destination number and initiates a connection to that number. Once that connection is initiated, the connection is monitored for the occurrence of a predetermined condition, such as a busy signal. If no such condition is detected, the caller proceeds with the call in the normal manner. If, however, such a condition is detected, the caller is automatically transferred to a directory assistance provider for further help.

  • Publication number: 20090067057
Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, a buried numerical aperture expander may be utilized to provide a head-up or virtual display at a larger field of view without requiring a larger amount of space, larger sized display, or larger sized optics. The buried numerical aperture expander is capable of selectively reflecting light emanating from a display such that the reflected light is expanded into a larger field of view, while simultaneously allowing other light to be transmitted through the buried numerical aperture expander without expansion so that the buried numerical aperture expander may be deployed in conjunction with a windshield or window without adversely affecting the ability to see through buried numerical aperture expander.
