  • Publication number: 20080115608
Abstract: A re-settable mechanical disconnect includes a fixed flange and a retracting flange, each including a plurality of ramped teeth that mate together. The incline of the ramp of each tooth may allow power to be transmitted from the engine to the generator at required speeds and may aid disengagement of the retracting flange form the fixed flange. The mechanical disconnect may be activated in the case of a generator failure and may be re-set and reused once the cause for activation is cleared. An actuator assembly may provide an external force in axial direction that may initiate disengagement and re-engagement of the retracting flange and the fixed flange. The mechanical disconnect may be suitable for, but not limited to, applications in the aircraft and aerospace industries, for example, for disengaging a variable frequency generator from an engine in the case of generator failure thus preventing damage to the gearbox.

  • Patent number: 7376890
Abstract: A method of discovering a fault in a circuit is disclosed. The method comprises generating a first result of a selected function by performing the selected function on an operand, wherein the selected function employs a mask. Once the function is performed, an antimask of the mask is created, and the modulo of the antimask is calculated. A modulo function of the first result of the selected function is calculated to obtain a third result. A modulo of the operand is then calculated to obtain a fourth result, and a second function is then performed on the second result and the third result to obtain a fifth result. In response to comparing the fifth result to the fourth result, a signal is propagated to indicate a fault in the circuit.

  • Patent number: 7376122
Abstract: Systems and methods for routing packets by nodes in an ad hoc network in accordance with a link quality source routing protocol are disclosed. Route discovery, route maintenance, and metric maintenance are designed to propagate and keep current link quality measurements. Metric maintenance includes a reactive approach for links that a node is currently using to route packets, and a proactive mechanism for all links. Nodes are configured to include a send buffer, a maintenance buffer, a request table, link quality metric modules, and preferably a neighbor cache and a link cache. The invention allows for asymmetric links in the network. The invention may be implemented within a virtual protocol interlayer between the link and network layers. The invention may employ any particular link quality metrics, including metrics based on probing techniques as well as metrics based on knowledge gained in other ways.

  • Patent number: 7376451
Abstract: A non-intrusive physiological data measurement system and method, as well as an optically induced treatment system, are described. The measurement system includes a monitoring mechanism that includes light emitter modules capable of emitting light at at least two wavelengths. The light emitted from the light emitter modules is transmitted through a subject and to a light receiving mechanism, such as an optical sensor. Physiological data is taken from the received light. The system also can ascertain movement of the subject by obtaining an initial outline of the subject and comparing that outline with a subsequently obtained outline. A therapeutic optic system includes a non-adhering light emitting mechanism for providing light at therapeutic wavelengths.

  • Publication number: 20080112492
Abstract: The present invention is an improvement to previously known systems for controller area networks and the method of communicating across such networks. The system and method introduces interpolated time markers to provide higher resolution bit container, for communicating data bits across the data bus of a three-wire controller area network. The interpolated time markers allow devices on a controller area network to effectively double tie amount of bandwidth available for communication and can in some cases even further increase the bandwidth beyond a factor of two.

  • Publication number: 20080112885
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to acoustic data transmission using a spreading code. A system for acoustic data transmission includes an ingestible capsule and an acoustic receiver. The ingestible capsule includes a modulator, a spreader, and an acoustic transmitter. The modulator modulates data according to a modulation scheme. The spreader spreads the modulated data according to a spreading code. The acoustic transmitter acoustically transmits the modulated and spread data through a body of an animal. The acoustic receiver includes an acoustic transducer a de-spreader and a demodulator. The acoustic transducer receives the acoustically transmitted signal and forms an electrical signal therefrom. The de-spreader de-spreads the received signal in accordance with the spreading code.

  • Publication number: 20080111118
Abstract: A rail fence retractor allowing removal of a fence rail engaged with a fence post comprising a blade having a first and second end. The first end of the blade has a thickness and width allowing insertion into a fence post slot having a rail inserted therein. The rail has self-locking tabs which must be depressed for removal of the rail from the fence post slot. The fence rail retractor also has a handle which is attached to the second end of the blade. The handle allows the application of force against handle to fix the position of the handle against the fence post during removal of said rail from said fence post slot. The handle is also useful in carrying the rail fence retractor when not in use. The handles of the rail fence retractor may be configured to allow integration with the blade. The handles may be also be configured to allow a pair of rail fence retractors to fit or snap together when not in use.

  • Patent number: 7369617
Abstract: An interleaving operation can scramble (permute) a data stream, or each dimension (set of symbols (a, b, c, . . . )) in a data stream, immediately following FEC encoding or dimension multiplexing of the data stream. Bursts of errors might be combined with the permuted data before, during, or after transmission. A de-interleaver reorders the received symbols and, in the process, spreads (separates) the bursts of errors. Also, using the multi-dimensional interleaving and de-interleaving can balance SNR on each channel. Spreading the errors and/or balancing SNR can keep bursts from overwhelming the FEC decoder or an FEC decoder in any one channel. In one example, interleaving and de-interleaving can be used to scramble data over Ethernet twisted wire pairs. In another example, interleaving and de-interleaving can be used to scramble data or information broadcast via wireless telecommunications channels (e.g., radio frequency channels, multi-antenna channels, etc).
