  • Patent number: 9895460
Abstract: An assembly for detecting a substance on an outer surface of a shaft. According to one implementation the assembly includes an elongate shaft having an outer surface and a radially emitting fiber spirally disposed inside the elongate shaft. A plurality of through holes are located between the radially emitting fiber and the outer surface with the through holes being longitudinally spaced-apart from one another. A laser under the control of a controller is optically coupled with the radially emitting fiber. The controller is configured to cause the laser to deliver pulsed light with a pulsed width into the radially emitting fiber. The longitudinal distance between adjacent through holes are such that the pulse width is shorter than a time for the light to travel between the adjacent through holes.

  • Patent number: 9872978
Abstract: According to one implementation an assembly is provided that includes a polymeric body having a working lumen and an external profile. The polymeric body is secured to a clamp that is transitional between an open position and a closed position. In the closed position the clamp applies a force on the polymeric body to cause a full or partial closure of the working lumen. The clamp includes a wall having a through opening that has an internal profile that is substantially similar to the external profile of the polymeric body. At least a portion of the polymeric body resides in the through opening so that the polymeric body is prevented from rotating in the clamp.

  • Patent number: 8912253
Abstract: A thermoplastic material, and in particular a jacket for an electrical cable, and more particularly a jacket for a THHN electrical cable, includes a polyamide base material, a silicon elastomer and an ethylene polymer modified with an unsaturated aliphatic diacid anhydride. The silicon elastomer does not migrate through the jacket. The jacket has a lower coefficient of friction than a cable with a jacket that does not have a silicon elastomer incorporated therein, and the resulting cable requires less force to install than a cable without a lubricant incorporated therein. The cable also has improved flame resistance and elongation-to-break properties. Methods for making these thermoplastic materials are also described.

  • Publication number: 20140330456
Abstract: A method and system of landing site designation in an autonomous delivery network are disclosed. In one embodiment, a landing server marks a geo-spatial location as an autonomous delivery location upon receiving a designation data communicated through a network by a recipient user. The designation data indicates the geo-spatial location as the autonomous delivery location based on at least one of a current geospatial location of a mobile device of the recipient user and a map view marking created by the recipient user through a computing device. The autonomous delivery location is associated with the recipient user and a navigation data is communicated through the network to an autonomous vehicle, directing the autonomous vehicle to the autonomous delivery location of the recipient user when a payload is requested by any one of the recipient user and a sending user to be physically delivered to the autonomous delivery location.
