  • Publication number: 20130242757
Abstract: In one embodiment, a layer-2 network that includes a cloud switch is partitioned into a plurality of segments, each segment including one or more cloud switch domains that are coupled via a logical port to a corresponding one of a plurality of internal logical shared media links. One of the internal logical shared media links is provisioned as a hub. One or more remaining internal logical shared media links are defaulted to be spokes. A spanning tree protocol (STP) is executed within each segment. The logical port of each cloud switch domain advertises a pseudo root bridge identifier (ID) to cause the internal logical shared media link to appear attached to a Root. The advertised pseudo root bridge ID of the hub is chosen to have a higher priority than the pseudo root bridge ID of the spokes to establish a hub and spoke relationship among the segments.

  • Publication number: 20130246372
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for performing efficient compression and deduplication of data segments. Compression algorithms are learning algorithms that perform better when data segments are large. Deduplication algorithms, however, perform better when data segments are small, as more duplicate small segments are likely to exist. As an optimizer is processing and storing data segments, the optimizer applies the same compression context to compress multiple individual deduplicated data segments as though they are one segment. By compressing deduplicated data segments together within the same context, data reduction can be improved for both deduplication and compression. Mechanisms are applied to compensate for possible performance degradation.

  • Publication number: 20130244723
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for dynamic search management in a multi-mode device. In one embodiment, a mobile device performs network search and acquisition by dynamically changing search delays and/or search frequencies. In one implementation, the mobile device adjusts the amount of time allocated for each network search based on e.g., previous network connection history (e.g., previously connected to a home network, previously connected to a roaming network), device conditions, user preferences, geographical information, etc. By focusing search effort on cellular technologies which have a high likelihood of success, the mobile device can greatly improve search time and reduce unnecessary power consumption.

  • Publication number: 20130246681
Abstract: A low power interconnect allows client to client communication using an XBAR architecture. An XBAR compiler generates chip designs with XBAR data paths structured to reduce energy consumption and delay. Repeaters inserted into XBAR data paths reduce resistance capacitance (RC) delays so that a design can support desired frequency specifications along a path. Dynamic power consumption is reduced by inserting latch repeaters in the XBAR track. The latch repeaters each include a transmission gate and a latch. Select circuitry couples selected clients to a path. Enable circuitry opens the transmission gates located on the path between the selected clients. Latch repeaters that are not enabled on a given communication cycle gate off the unused portions of the path and maintain the data that was latched on a previous cycle.

  • Publication number: 20130241182
Abstract: A system and a method for protecting the occupant of a vehicle during a side-impact detects an approaching vehicle and identifies a collision threat. A collision threat level is assessed based on a set of parameters, and when the collision threat exceeds a pre-determined collision threat threshold level, the system unlatches the occupant's door, pushes it a few centimeters outwards, and locks it in that position. Pressure sensors and accelerometers disposed at suitable locations on the sides of the vehicle, provide crash signals to a Restraint Control Module (RCM). When the crash signals exceed a certain threshold, the RCM commands an airbag deployment module to deploy the airbag between the occupant and the door. Since the door is pushed outwards, an extra pre-crush space is created between the occupant and the door, which allows the use of larger and softer side airbags to provide enhanced protection to the vehicle occupants.

  • Publication number: 20130245892
Abstract: An exemplary method correlates a steering device position to a steered element position by determining a target steering angle based on a detected position of the steering device; determining a vehicle steering angle based on a detected position of the steered element; determining a steering correction based on comparing the target steering angle to the vehicle steering angle; and applying a steering control multiplier to affect the steering correction in response to a difference between the target steering angle and the vehicle steering angle being larger than a threshold difference, and in response to a detected vehicle parameter.
