Publication number: 20170283022Abstract: A portable sail for use with a paddle and paddle board, where one edge of the sail has a fastening portion that is reversibly affixed along the length of the paddle, while the opposite end of the sail is held by the user via a cord or handle. With paddle held upright on the surface of the paddle board with one hand, and controlling the end of the sail with the other hand, a user can capture the wind and propel the paddle board through the water. The rate of propulsion can be adjusted by partially wrapping the sail around the paddle to reduce the sail area exposed to the wind. Furthermore, the sail can be entirely wrapped around the paddle so the paddle can be used to manually propel the paddle board in the traditional manner.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2016Publication date: October 5, 2017Inventor: Sharon A. Publication number: 20160306531Abstract: Window-invoking functionality is described herein for leveraging context information to present a graphical control element (e.g., a window) of an application in a manner that most likely corresponds to the underlying intent of a user. By doing so, the window-invoking functionality improves the efficiency of the user in interacting with the application, and also reduces consumption of computing resources. In one implementation, the window-invoking functionality includes an information gathering component for collecting the context information, and an invocation component for selecting a particular virtual desktop on which to present the graphical control element, based on the context information.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2015Publication date: October 20, 2016Inventors: Tsz Yan Wong, Richard Fang, Michael A. Patent number: 8843181Abstract: Methods and apparatus are directed to mobile devices utilizing motion and/or position sensors for improving operating performance and/or power efficiency. In one example, a method for reducing power consumption in a mobile device includes receiving movement information, establishing movement data based on the movement information, determining if the mobile device is stationary using the movement data; and reducing the frequency of searching for a base station when the mobile device is stationary. In another example, a mobile device which reduces power consumption based upon movement data includes an RF front end, a receiver coupled to the RF front end, a data demodulator coupled to the receiver, a searcher, coupled to the RF front end and the receiver, which searches for base stations, and a processing unit coupled to the searcher, wherein the processing unit controls the searcher based upon the stationarity of the mobile device.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2009Date of Patent: September 23, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Cristina A. Seibert, Douglas Neal Rowitch, Parvathanathan Subrahmanya, Leonid Sheynblat

Patent number: 8436773Abstract: A method for enhanced location determination using temporal, spatial and/or frequency diversity. Multiple ranging signal measurements are obtained from each signal source using either temporal, spatial and/or frequency diversity. In one embodiment, the multiple ranging signal measurements are combined using a metric to obtain a single ranging signal measurement. The location determination solution is then calculated using the single ranging signal measurement. In a second embodiment, a location determination solution is calculated for each of the multiple ranging signal measurements to result in multiple location determination solutions. A metric is then used to combine the multiple location determination solutions to result in a single location determination solution.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2005Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Cristina A. Seibert

Patent number: 8391345Abstract: Wireless devices and techniques providing improved system acquisition in an environment of multiple co-existing technologies over a common frequency band are disclosed. In one aspect, at a remote terminal, a power spectral distribution (PSD) of received signals is sequentially measured in contiguous segments of a frequency band of interest. One or more characteristics of the measured PSD is compared to at least one predetermined metric to identify the presence or absence of at least one technology type of the received signals in frequency locations across the band. A system acquisition operation is performed in accordance with the identification, such as a tailored scan of channels at locations where a desired technology is identified.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2009Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Daniel F.
