  • Patent number: 7116760
Abstract: In a system and method for determining the suitability of a copper pair line for xDSL service use, characteristic parameters of a copper pair line to be tested are measured. These characteristics include a wire gauge, length, and temperature of the copper pair line. In addition, characteristics such as the presence of short circuits, longitudinal balance, the presence of load coils, wideband noise and loop attenuation are tested for the copper pair line. A plant map of the copper pair line is then determined based on the measured and tested characteristics. Using the above characteristics and the plant map of the copper pair line, a transfer function representative of the plant map is determined which is then used to analyze and thereby qualify the copper pair line.

  • Patent number: 7117160
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for eliminating the unnecessary dispatch of a service technician. The service orders generated by the service order control system are monitored to identify service orders that require a dispatch. If a service order is identified as requiring a dispatch, then the service order is selected for further analysis. The service order is initially analyzed to determine whether the service order meets a set of predefined criteria that identify service orders that are likely to cause an unnecessary dispatch. If the service order meets the set of predefined criteria, then the service order is further analyzed to determine whether the dispatch associated with the service order is unnecessary and should be canceled. Once the dispatch is determined to be unnecessary, then the service order is corrected and the dispatch is canceled.

  • Patent number: 7117287
Abstract: An apparatus and method for maintaining a circular FIFO (first-in, first-out) queue in an I/O (input-output) subsystem of a computer system such as a server, workstation, or storage machine. The queue is coupled to a bypass circuit, used to provide access to data items out of the order in which they were stored in the queue, thus bypassing the latency inherent in retrieving the items from the queue. Control logic maintains write and read pointers indicating locations in the queue for writing and reading data items. The write pointer is incremented upon every data event to the queue, thereby maintaining a history of data that has been written to the queue, which is useful for diagnostic purposes. A history flag is maintained to indicate whether the write pointer has wrapped around the addresses in the queue, indicating whether all data items in the queue are valid for diagnostic purposes.

  • Patent number: 7114964
Abstract: Lightweight, low-cost, high-density electrical connectors are disclosed that provide impedance-controlled, high-speed, low-interference communications, even in the absence of shields between the contacts, and that provide for a variety of other benefits not found in prior art connectors. An example of such an electrical connector may include a first signal contact positioned within a first linear array of electrical contacts and a second signal contact positioned within a second linear array of electrical contacts that is adjacent to the first linear array. Either of the signal contacts may be a single-ended signal conductor, or one of a differential signal pair. The connector may be devoid of shields between the signal contacts, and of ground contacts adjacent to the signal contacts.

  • Patent number: 7117274
Abstract: A circuit testing and control approach involves configurable switch control for automatically detecting and routing test signals along a plurality of test circuit paths. According to an example embodiment of the present invention, graphical user interface (GUI) (240) includes stored computer-executable code that, when executed, causes a micro-computer circuit to send configuration signals to a microcontroller (220). A configurable circuit (215) coupled to the microcontroller is then configured by the microcontroller, in response to the configuration signals, for routing test signals using controllable switches. In one implementation, the configurable circuit includes circuits on inter-connectable circuit boards (210, 250, 260), with sense nodes for detecting the presence of an inter-connectable circuit board coupled to another. In response to the detected presence (or lack thereof), the controllable switches control the routing of the test signals between the inter-connectable circuit boards.
