Abstract: Described are arithmetic circuits divided logically into a product generator and an adder. Multiplexing circuitry logically disposed between the product generator and the adder supports conventional functionality by providing partial products from the product generator to addend terminals of the adder. The multiplexing circuitry can also be controlled to direct a number of external added inputs to the adder. The additional addend inputs can include inputs and outputs cascaded from other arithmetic circuits.

Abstract: Described is a programmable logic device (PLD) with columns of DSP slices that can be cascaded to create DSP circuits of varying size and complexity. Each DSP slice includes a plurality of operand input ports and a slice output port, all of which are programmably connected to general routing and logic resources. The operand ports receive operands for processing, and a slice output port conveys processed results. Each slice additionally includes a feedback port connected to the respective slice output port, to support accumulate functions in this embodiment, and a cascade input port connected to the output port of an upstream slice to support cascading.

Abstract: Described are mathematical circuits that perform flexible rounding schemes. The circuits require few additional resources and can be adjusted dynamically to change the number of bits involved in the rounding. In one embodiment, a DSP circuit stores a rounding constant selected from the group of binary numbers 2(M?1) and 2(M?1)?1, calculates a correction factor, and sums the rounding constant, the correction factor, and a data item to obtain a rounded data item.

Abstract: Described is a programmable logic device (PLD) with columns of DSP slices that can be combined to create DSP circuits of varying size and complexity. DSP slices in accordance with some embodiments includes programmable operand input registers that can be configured to introduce different amounts of delay, from zero to two clock cycles, for example, to support pipelining. In one such embodiment, each DSP slice includes a partial-product generator having a multiplier port, a multiplicand port, and a product port. The multiplier and multiplicand ports connect to the operand input port via respective first and second operand input registers, each of which is capable of introducing from zero to two clock cycles of delay. In another embodiment, the output of at least one operand input register can connect to the input of an operand input register of a downstream DSP slice so that operands can be transferred among one or more slices.

Abstract: In one embodiment an IC is disclosed which includes a plurality of cascaded digital signal processing slices, wherein each slice has a multiplier coupled to an adder via a multiplexer and each slice has a direct connection to an adjoining slice; and means for configuring the plurality of digital signal processing slices to perform one or more mathematical operations, via, for example, opmodes. This IC allows for the implementation of some basic math functions, such as add, subtract, multiply and divide. Many other applications may be implemented using the one or more DSP slices, for example, accumulate, multiply accumulate (MACC), a wide multiplexer, barrel shifter, counter, and folded, decimating, and interpolating FIRs to name a few.

Abstract: Hydroxynaphthyridinone carboxamides of formula: are described as inhibitors of HIV integrase and inhibitors of HIV replication, wherein L, R1a, R1b, R1c, R2a, R2b, R3, R4, and R5 are defined herein. These compounds are useful in the prevention and treatment of infection by HIV and in the prevention, delay in the onset, and treatment of AIDS. The compounds are employed against HIV infection and AIDS as compounds per se or in the form of pharmaceutically acceptable salts. The compounds and their salts can be employed as ingredients in pharmaceutical compositions, optionally in combination with other antivirals, immunomodulators, antibiotics or vaccines. Methods of preventing, treating or delaying the onset of AIDS and methods of preventing or treating infection by HIV are also described.

Abstract: A method of improving the lubricity of an aqueous based drilling fluid composed of an aqueous base fluid, and a weighting agent. The method involves the addition of an effective amount of a phospholipid to substantially reduce the coefficient of friction when compared to the fluid absent the phospholipids. Preferably the phospholipids have the structure: in which R and R? are C6 to C25 hydrocarbon groups; and A is an anion to counter the cationic charge.

Abstract: A method, device, and system for modifying or destroying selected tissue, by selecting an area of tissue for treatment, collecting the area between a plurality of energy transmitting elements, applying an electric current and/or electromagnetic radiation between the energy transmitting elements, and applying the electric current and/or electromagnetic radiation until, for example, the cells are modified or destroyed. Cooling may be applied to prevent unwanted modification. Conducting mediums may be applied to control tissue modification. Embodiments of the present invention may be used for treatment of fat cells, acne, lesions, tattoo removals etc.

Abstract: Interconnecting logic provides connectivity of an embedded fixed logic circuit, or circuits, with programmable logic fabric of a programmable gate array such that the fixed logic circuit functions as an extension of the programmable logic fabric. The interconnecting logic includes interconnecting tiles and may further include interfacing logic. The interconnecting tiles provide selective connectivity between inputs and/or outputs of the fixed logic circuit and interconnect of the programmable logic fabric. The interfacing logic, when included, provides logic circuitry that conditions data transfers between the fixed logic circuit and the programmable logic fabric. In one operation, the programmable logic fabric is configured prior to the startup/boot sequence of the fixed logic circuit. In another operation, the fixed logic circuit is started up and is employed to configure the programmable logic fabric.

Abstract: Certain aza- and polyaza-naphthalenyl ketones including certain quinolinyl and naphthyridinyl ketones are described as inhibitors of HIV integrase and inhibitors of HIV replication. These compounds are useful in the prevention or treatment of infection by HIV and the treatment or the delay in the onset of AIDS, as compounds or pharmaceutically acceptable salts, or as ingredients in pharmaceutical compositions, optionally in combination with other antivirals, immunomodulators, antibiotics or vaccines. Methods of treating or delaying the onset of AIDS and methods of preventing or treating infection by HIV are also described.

Abstract: An FPGA is laid out as a plurality of repeatable tiles, wherein the tiles are disposed in columns that extend from one side of the die to another side of the die, and wherein each column includes tiles primarily of one type. Because substantially all die area of a column is due to tiles of a single type, the width of the tiles of each column can be optimized and is largely independent of the size of the other types of tiles on the die. The confines of each type of tile can therefore be set to match the size of the circuitry of the tile. Rather than providing a ring of input/output blocks (IOBs) around the die periphery, IOB tiles are disposed in columns only. Where more than two columns worth of IOBs is required, more than two columns of IOB tiles can be provided.

Abstract: A control system for a modular, mixed initiative, human-machine interface. The control system comprises moves, the moves defining units of interaction about a topic of information. The moves comprise at least one system move and at least one user move. Each system move is structured such that it contains information regarding pre-processing to be performed, information to develop a prompt to be issued to the user and information that enables possible user moves which can follow the system move to be listed. Each user move is structured such that it contains information relating to interpretation grammars that trigger the user move, information relating to processing to be performed based upon received and recognised data and information regarding the next move to be invoked. A corresponding method is provided.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling an interactive human-machine interface, which includes an input device and comprises a set of states. The set of states form a network through which data can be passed as a token. In a dialogue control unit, future states are assessed to determine allowable user inputs that may be received from the user. Each portion of the user input is stored in an associated node of the token, for use in the current state or in another of the active states. Each node is checked to see if it relates to the current state, and if so, then the portion of the user input stored in the node is processed.

The horizontal ruler is adjusted in accordance with the maximum printing capability of the system printer or the width of a recording medium used for printing the keyed-in characters. The vertical ruler is adjusted in accordance with the font size of the keyed-in characters or the length of the recording medium.

Abstract: An apparatus in a computer for creating a diagram, which may include a plurality of symbols. The apparatus includes a graphical controller, which is associated with a symbol of the aforementioned diagram that is "selected." In one embodiment, the graphical controller includes a connector graphical controller for creating a first connector, which is coupled to the aforementioned selected symbol. Further, the graphical controller includes a symbol graphical controller for creating a new symbol, which new symbol is coupled to the aforementioned selected symbol by a second connector. The symbol graphical controller and the connector graphical controller are visually distinct from one another on the display screen so that the user may easily select either of the two for drawing diagram objects. In another embodiment, the invention further creates a temporary version of the aforementioned new symbol when the symbol graphical controller is held by the pointing device of the computer.

Abstract: A ballistic vest of the soft body armor type comprises a plurality of overlying first flexible layers arranged in a stack on a strike side of the vest and a plurality of overlying second flexible layers arranged in a stack on a body side of the vest. One of the first or second flexible layers comprises unidirectional aramid fibers coated with resin and cross plied to form a flexible plastic sheet, and the other flexible layer comprises thin plastic ballistic fibers forming a thin flexible woven fabric sheet. The woven fabric sheet can consist of aramid fibers or non-aramid fibers.
