  • Patent number: 4075748
Abstract: An automatic fastener emplacement mechanism for selectively applying fasteners, such as spring clips, to a work piece is provided. The mechanism preferably includes a vibratory hopper or other storage means for receiving the spring clips in bulk and properly orienting same on a track and an assembly tool having a nose piece for properly positioning the tool relative to the work piece and a ram for driving the fastener onto the work piece. Placement of the work piece properly within the nose piece will result in contact and/or displacement of an actuation member or trigger by the work piece which will cause a single fastener such as a spring clip to be fed, preferably by known means such as pneumatically through an escapement down a delivery tube, directly from the hopper track to the work piece. The clip is held in the nose piece against the work piece by the continued introduction of compressed air into the tube. Thus, the nose piece does not require a stop member or a catcher/holder mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4047268
Abstract: A worm gear clamping apparatus including a molded, one-piece worm gear drive head and strap assembly, the end of the strap oppositely disposed from the worm gear drive head defining partial internal threads on its outward surface. The apparatus also includes a molded worm member having external threads and an elongated guide portion projecting forwardly of the threads. The worm gear drive head defines a strap-receiving opening for receiving the opposite end of the strap, and also defines a worm chamber configured to receive the external threads of the worm member. The forward end of the worm gear drive head defines a journal opening for receiving the elongated guide portion axially movable therein.

  • Patent number: 3935983
Abstract: A fluid power driven roof nailing machine which receives a roofing nail and a sealing disc and, keeping them axially aligned, drives the nail through the disc into a surface to be nailed. The machine includes an arm swingably driven by a fluid motor, a sealing disc holder fixedly carried by the free end of the arm, and a nail driver positioned at the free end of the arm and mounted for sliding movement relative to the disc holder. A method of attaching roofing using such a machine is also disclosed.
