Abstract: A distributed traveling-wave Mach-Zehnder modulator driver having a plurality of modulation stages that operate cooperatively (in-phase) to provide a signal suitable for use in a 100 Gb/s optical fiber transmitter at power levels that are compatible with conventional semiconductor devices and conventional semiconductor processing is described.

Abstract: A hose includes an inner layer containing a fluoroelastomer, an outer layer containing one or more EPDM elastomer and EPM elastomer, and at least one textile reinforcement layer disposed between the inner layer and the outer layer. In some aspects, the at least one textile reinforcement layer is wound directly onto inner layer. Further, the textile reinforcement layer(s) may be an open braid textile which facilitates direct contact between the outer layer and the inner layer. In some cases, the fluoroelastomer has a fluorine content which is within the range of 64 weight percent to 71 weight percent. The fluoroelastomer may have repeat units which include at least two perflurorinated monomers and at least one cure site monomer, while in other cases, the fluoroelastomer has repeat units which include a perfluoroolefin monomer, a perfluorovinyl ether monomer, and a cure site monomer.

Abstract: Methods for determining the presence of an unmeasured chemical in an environment can include receiving a plurality of sensor readings from a plurality of chemical sensors, wherein each chemical sensor of the plurality of chemical sensors is configured to detect a different chemical, determining a cross-sensitivity pattern from one or more unmeasured chemicals in the plurality of sensor readings, comparing the cross-sensitivity pattern with one or more known chemical patterns, determining that the cross-sensitivity pattern matches at least one of the one or more known chemical patterns that correspond to one or more chemicals, and identifying one or more unmeasured chemicals based on determining that the cross-sensitivity pattern matches the at least one of the one or more known chemical patterns.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for analyzing a plurality of biological samples with a plurality of fluorescent reagents in an automated fashion. The system may include two optical systems, a fluorescence imaging system and an optical quenching system. These two systems may be placed laterally adjacent to one another, and generally beneath one of the wells of sample-containing microtiter plate. The biological sample contained therein may be stained with a series of fluorescent reagents, with the fluorescence quenched between stainings. By precise positioning of the sample with respect to the imaging system, the sample may be imaged with a plurality of serially applied reagents.

Abstract: An orthopedic device for implanting between adjacent vertebrae comprising: an arcuate balloon and a hardenable material within said balloon. In some embodiments, the balloon has a footprint that substantially corresponds to a perimeter of a vertebral endplate. An inflatable device is inserted through a cannula into an intervertebral space and oriented so that, upon expansion, a natural angle between vertebrae will be at least partially restored. At least one component selected from the group consisting of a load-bearing component and an osteobiologic component is directed into the inflatable device through a fluid communication means.

Abstract: A computing device is provided, which includes a processor configured to, detect a plurality of display devices configured for wireless communication, send a request to the plurality of display devices to cause the plurality of display devices to each display different associated codes, receive user input of one of the codes associated with a target display device of the plurality of display devices, send the one of the codes to the plurality of display devices, receive an identification message from the target display device associated with the one of the codes, establish a display session via a wireless connection with the target display device, and send display content to the target display via the wireless connection.

Abstract: A system of configuring a new device may include a new device that is not configured with one or more settings. The new device includes a short range communication transmitter and programming instructions configured to cause the new device to operate in a discoverable mode. The system includes an existing device that is configured with the settings, and that includes a short range communication receiver and programming instructions. The programming instructions are configured to cause the existing device to receive instructions to set up the new device, in response to receiving the instructions, detect, by the short range communication receiver, a presence of the new device by detecting the broadcast signal within a communication range of the short range communication receiver, and in response to detecting the presence of the new device, transmit at least a portion of the one or more settings directly to the new device.

Abstract: In general, a branching configuration used in a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical communication system, consistent with an embodiment of the present disclosure, includes a branch path with two or more optical paths cross-coupled to each other to provide redundant add and/or drop channel wavelengths to a branch terminal on each cross-coupled path. Accordingly, a fault condition affecting some of the cross-coupled optical paths may occur physically downstream from the cross-coupling, e.g., within a subsea umbilical cable or associated termination equipment. However, so long as at least one of the cross-coupled optical paths remains operational, then branch terminal equipment in the branch terminal may continue to receive channel wavelengths associated with a faulted optical path via an operational optical path by virtue of cross-coupling. Thus, the cross-coupled configuration reduces or otherwise eliminates the necessity of allocating spare optical paths within the subsea umbilical cable.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product are provided for detecting state and sparing of optical Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCI-Express or PCIE) cable channels attached to an IO drawer. System firmware is provided for implementing health check functions and state detection and sparing functions. One or more optical cables are connected between a host bridge and an PCIE enclosure, each optical cable includes one or more spare optical channels. An identified failed optical channel is rerouted to the spare optical channel.

Abstract: In one or more embodiments, a cloud operation reservation system is provided through which cloud operations may be scheduled and managed. The cloud operation reservation system includes logic for defining a set of time windows that are available to perform one or more cloud operations on cloud targets and presenting the set of time windows to one or more tenants of a cloud service. Tenants may browse the presented set of time windows and submit reservation requests to update and/or perform other operations on cloud targets. In response to receiving, a request to reserve one or more slots in a particular time window, the cloud operation reservation system schedules one or more cloud operations to be performed on a cloud target that is available to at least one tenant.

Abstract: A safe sleeve gastrectomy and intestinal switch reduces gastric volume and calorie intake as a weight loss treatment. The safe sleeve gastrectomy and intestinal switch utilizes a safety pocket to increase safety and guide division of the stomach. An instrument tunnel is created to facilitate division of the stomach into a pouch and a sectioned portion. In this manner, over or complete mobilization of the stomach is avoided. The sectioned portion may be lifted for increased visibility to facilitate its mobilization and removal from the patient. The small intestine can then be separated from the stomach and divided into shortened segments, one of which is reattached to the stomach.

Abstract: A grenade simulation apparatus is provided that allows users to simulate the detonation of a standard grenade, flashbang grenade, and impact grenade, without using explosive charges, fire, or pressurized material. The apparatus may provide both visual and auditory feedback in a safe and re-usable manner. The apparatus may provide a method for triggering a simulated detonation externally using a switch. A simulated detonation may include visual and/or auditory feedback, such as through the use of a siren and LEDs.

Abstract: A vane assembly may comprise an engine case and an anti-rotation lug coupled to the engine case. The anti-rotation lug may have a forward end and an aft end. A vane cluster may be supported within the engine case. The vane cluster may include an outer shroud with a first slot defined by a forward flange of the outer shroud and with a second slot defined by an aft flange of the outer shroud. The second slot may be configured to receive the aft end of the anti-rotation lug from first direction and wherein the aft flange may be configured to block receipt of the anti-rotation lug from a second direction, which is opposite the first direction.

Abstract: Implementations of the present application relate to caller preview data and call messages based on caller preview data. In some implementations, a method includes sending, by a caller device, a call request to one or more callee devices, and establishing a connection to at least one callee device prior to receipt of an acceptance of the call request by the callee device. At least a portion of caller preview data is transmitted to the callee device over the connection prior to the receipt of the call acceptance. In response to determining that the at least a portion of the caller preview data has been transmitted for a particular time period without receipt of the acceptance of the call request, information is transmitted to instruct a call message to be stored on the callee device, where the call message includes at least a part of the caller preview data.

Abstract: A variety of implementations, building off one another, of a device that mechanically provides energy to muscles used throughout the gait cycle. The mechanical power is provided by elastic bands, or similar material. The different implementations presented introduce more components which provide adjustability in many aspects of the device including how it fits the user, increasing comfort for the user, and providing customized tension levels, thus customized assistance, in the different segments of the device thus to the different muscle groups in the lower extremity.

Abstract: A power-tool cutting device that is free of a torque-transmitting element includes at least one cutting strand and at least one guiding unit for guiding the cutting strand. The guiding unit together with the cutting strand forms a closed system. The power-tool cutting device has at least one preloading unit that is arranged on the guiding unit. The preloading unit is configured for automatic play compensation and/or tolerance compensation of the cutting strand at least during a state of the guiding unit in which the guiding unit is removed from a coupling device of a portable power tool.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are device and system for rebounding basketballs comprising: a) a bottom frame assembly having a front portion, first and second side portions, and a rear portion, the bottom frame assembly comprising: i) a bottom support frame having a plurality of detachably connected tubular elements defining the edge of the bottom frame assembly, and ii) a bottom screen component attached to the bottom support frame; and b) at least two side frame assemblies, each side frame assembly having front, rear, top, bottom, and portions, each side frame assembly comprising: i) a side support frame having a plurality of detachably connected tubular elements, ii) a side screen component attached to the side support frame, and iii) an attachment component connected to a portion of the side frame assembly, and configured to releasably attach the side frame assembly to a basketball backboard at a substantially fixed position.

Abstract: A flywheel apparatus that magnetically unloads a top rotor bearing is described. The apparatus includes a flywheel housing, a rotor with a vertical axis of rotation that includes a magnetic material, a magnet configured to apply a desired upward off-loading force along the vertical axis of rotation, an upper bearing connected to an upper shaft of the rotor, and a bearing housing disposed between the upper bearing and the flywheel housing that substantially prevents downward axial motion of the upper bearing. The magnet includes an electromagnet. A force sensor is used to measure a force on the upper bearing which is provided as input to a controller that updates the current to the electromagnet. The rotor is maintained in a fixed axial position and a spring disposed below a lower bearing absorbs axial dimension growth of the rotor.

Abstract: A tyre for wheels of vehicles, in particular motor vehicles, is described. The tyre has a tread with at least one copolymer selected from iso-styrene: diene-terminated copolymers. The tread has less sensitivity to the effects of temperature, with less weakness, better consistency of performances, and improved characteristics in terms of grip and/or resistance to laceration.
