Patent number: 8977454Abstract: A system and method are provided for grade-based anti-hunt shift control of an automatic transmission powering a machine. A shift controller determines a recommended gear in which to operate the transmission and sets an anti-hunt timer upon recommending a shift from a first gear to a second gear. The anti-hunt timer prevents a subsequent shift back to the first gear while the anti-hunt timer is running. A grade-based controller is configured to track machine operation and to determine when the machine operational factors change such that an estimated steady state gear differs from the second gear. When such a change is encountered, the grade-based controller clears the anti-hunt timer and sets a secondary timer. The clearing of the anti-hunt timer allows a downshift to accommodate the detected grade while the setting of the secondary timer prevents a subsequent clearing of the anti-hunt timer while the secondary timer is running.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2013Date of Patent: March 10, 2015Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Scott A. Tipton, James W. Landes, Justin L. Steinlage

Patent number: 6902678Abstract: A system and method for treating and removing hydrocarbon and other contaminants in bilge and ballast water, utilizing a multiple progressive process that chemically and electrically treats-and removes contaminants. Wastewater, received by a sump, is transmitted to a holding tank and treated, over a period of time while-influent wastewater continues off loading. The wastewater is pumped to an oil/water separator tank that decants free-floating oil from the wastewater to an oil retention tank. The wastewater then undergoes an electrocoagulation process where emulsions are broken and compounds that further aid treatment are created. The treated water flows to a retention/separation tank where contaminant particles coalesce and separate. Water is decanted and transferred to a clean water holding tank through an ozone injection system and an activated carbon filter. Treated water is recirculated until it exits the system meeting discharge limits for organics and metals allowing release into the environment.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2003Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Inventor: Gary A. Tipton

Patent number: 6464865Abstract: The present invention is a compact water dispersal system located on an outdoor ground site. The system includes a water treatment system resulting in treated water with an organic loading of less than about 20 ppm and a suspended solids concentration of less than about 20 ppm. The water flows from the water treatment system to an interior discharge pipe having a plurality of perforations. Through the perforations, the water flows into an exterior discharge pipe surrounding the interior discharge pipe, the exterior discharge pipe also having a plurality of perforations. The exterior discharge pipe is surrounded by a layer of wicking material. A volume of fill material surrounds the interior discharge pipe, the exterior discharge pipe, and the layer of wicking material, thereby dispersing the water therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2001Date of Patent: October 15, 2002Assignee: EcoKasa IncorporatedInventors: Gary A.
