  • Patent number: 8243599
Abstract: A method includes receiving a first capture time corresponding to a first time that a data packet is received at a first probe and a second capture time corresponding to a second time that the data packet is received at a second probe. The data packet is from existing network traffic transmitted over a data network. The first and second probes can be configured to capture the data packet in response to a capture instruction. The first capture time and second capture time are different and are used to calculate the latency of at least a portion of a data network.

  • Patent number: 8244354
Abstract: An implantable pacing system with single, double and triple chamber pacing capabilities, provided individually or in concert on a conditional or continuous basis depending upon ongoing analyses of atrial rhythm status, atrioventricular conduction status and ventricular rate. A mode is selected to reduce the occurrence of any ventricular pacing in favor of intrinsic atrioventricular and ventricular conduction. If excessively long PR intervals are occurring too frequently or atrioventricular conduction is unreliable or absent, the implantable pulse generator is operated in a conditional triple chamber pacing mode that provides atrial-synchronous biventricular pacing in every cardiac cycle for a period of time as necessary to restore and maintain AV synchrony, while minimizing ventricular asynchrony otherwise associated with monochamber RV pacing as in conventional dual chamber pacing systems.

  • Patent number: 8241222
Abstract: This disclosure relates to monitoring intracardiac or vascular impedance to determine a change in hemodynamic status by detecting changes in an impedance parameter over cardiac cycles. An example method includes measuring a plurality of impedance values of a path within a patient over time, wherein the path includes at least one blood vessel or cardiac chamber of the patient, and wherein the impedance values vary as a function of blood pressure within the at least one vessel or chamber, determining a plurality of values of an impedance parameter over time based on the measured impedance values, wherein each of the impedance parameter values is determined based on a respective sub-plurality of the impedance values, comparing at least one of the impedance parameter values to at least one prior impedance parameter value, and identifying a change in a cardiovascular parameter related to the blood pressure based on the comparison.

  • Patent number: 8241524
Abstract: Disclosed is a release on demand type corrosion inhibitor composition for a metal substrate formed from only non-electrically conductive film forming copolymer(s); a nitrogen containing functional group X, where the group X comprises a pyridine, a dihydropyridine, a pyrrole, an imidazole, or a mixtures thereof; and a metallate anion. The metallate anion binds to a nitrogen in the functional group X by ion pairing. A localized rise in pH is believed to cause release of the anion via a protonation/deprotonation reaction and the released anion suppresses the corrosion formation. The coating composition includes no electrically conductive polymers.

  • Patent number: 8244515
Abstract: A design structure for a pipeline electronic processor device may be embodied in a machine readable medium for designing, manufacturing or testing a processor integrated circuit. The design structure may embody a pipeline electronic circuit that enables power conservation in the stages of the pipeline via a simulation that identifies clock-gating opportunities among the stages of the pipeline. In one embodiment, simulation results assist a designer in the design of the pipeline electronic circuit design structure to achieve power conservation by incorporating clock-gating circuitry among the stages of the pipeline at clock gating opportunity locations that the simulation identifies.

  • Patent number: 8245192
Abstract: A system is provided comprising a computer and application that creates a development zone in response to a first message. The zone comprises a recording of state-based references to files and folders of a master production build in read-only and read-write copies of the build. The system receives another message containing a request to commit changes to the build. The changes comprise updating the build with changes to the read-write clone. The system compares the read-only snapshot with the current build to determine changes committed after the zone creation. The system compares changes to the read-write clone and changes committed to the build after zone creation. The system identifies files and folders changed in the read-write clone and commits the changes made to the read-write clone to a staging build and the master production build.

  • Patent number: 8244782
Abstract: A role-based operational directory facilitates identification of and communication with key contact personnel during an operation. Role-specific directory instances are created in the directory. The role-specific instances are created by a system operator and list the roles involved in an operation and the associations between the roles. The role-specific directory instance is advertised to a selected user, and the selected user associates with the role-specific directory instance. If the user is a key contact for the operation or is otherwise required or allowed to be associated with a role in the operation, the user also associates with a role from the list of roles in the role-specific directory instance. The directory instance is dynamically updated, modified, and tailored as necessary, and transmitted to the communication devices of the selected users of the role-specific directory instance.

  • Patent number: 8240142
Abstract: A compressed-air energy storage system according to embodiments of the present invention comprises a reversible mechanism to compress and expand air, one or more compressed air storage tanks, a control system, one or more heat exchangers, and, in certain embodiments of the invention, a motor-generator. The reversible air compressor-expander uses mechanical power to compress air (when it is acting as a compressor) and converts the energy stored in compressed air to mechanical power (when it is acting as an expander). In certain embodiments, the compressor-expander comprises one or more stages, each stage consisting of pressure vessel (the “pressure cell”) partially filled with water or other liquid. In some embodiments, the pressure vessel communicates with one or more cylinder devices to exchange air and liquid with the cylinder chamber(s) thereof. Suitable valving allows air to enter and leave the pressure cell and cylinder device, if present, under electronic control.

  • Patent number: 8240215
Abstract: A technique for measuring pressure of a material directs one or more laser beams at the material (e.g., a pressurized fluid) to create a distribution of electromagnetic field intensity which varies over an intensity range and induces dielectric breakdown in the material. An emission pattern of broadband light from the dielectric breakdown is detected, and a value of a characteristic of the emission pattern (e.g., location of a threshold intensity or of a peak intensity) is processed (e.g., by a computer or similar electronic processor) to generate a pressure measurement signal representing a pressure of the material. Processing typically employs a pre-established calibration function which associates a set of stored values of the characteristic with corresponding known pressures of the material, obtained for example by preceding similar measurements of the same material under conditions of known pressures.

  • Patent number: 8244437
Abstract: A safety system for a motor vehicle has a yaw rate sensor for detecting a yaw rate of the vehicle and impact sensors for detecting a side impact. A control module calculates a lateral kinetic energy of the vehicle if the yaw rate exceeds a threshold value, and an occupant restraint is activated based upon the lateral kinetic energy and signals from the side impact sensors. The disclosed system and method provide for improved restraint deployment decisions when a vehicle has a lateral velocity associated with a high yaw rate, as may be the case during a spin or a skid.
