Patent number: 6477402Abstract: A guidewire advancement system for inserting catheter guidewires into blood vessels, and more particularly a guidewire dispensing system for the controlled sterile insertion of a coiled spring guidewire to avoid infection of the patient. The system provides for the transmission of an electrical signal by the guidewire to determine its location within the body.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1999Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Assignee: Arrow International Investment Corp.Inventors: Arthur S. Lynch, A. Walter MacEachern
-
Patent number: 6071243Abstract: An optical system for positioning a pressure transducer relative to a patient to provide for accurate measurement of bodily fluids within the patient. A light source such as a laser is used to direct light onto a specified location on the human body to accurately identify the elevation of the transducer relative to the specified location to provide an absolute measurement of fluid pressure.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1998Date of Patent: June 6, 2000Assignee: Arrow International Investment Corp.Inventor: A. Walter MacEachern

Patent number: 4431000Abstract: Aphasias and other neurologically based speech and language impairments are treated by means of a transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator. Preferably an irregular pulse train is applied by means of a pseudorandom pulse generator to the stimulator electrodes. The trapezoidal, monophasic pulses mimic typical physiological wave forms and the average pulse rate is in the order of the alpha rate. A series of pulses has a zero DC level which enables the nerves to repolarize, and a current source in the stimulator reduces the effects of such variables as skin resistance. The base pulse rate, pulse width and pulse amplitude can be adjusted to meet the particular needs of a patient.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1980Date of Patent: February 14, 1984Assignee: Gatron CorporationInventors: Russell B. Butler, Nancy A. Helm, A. Walter MacEachern
