Patent number: 10250474Abstract: In one implementation, data is communicated along a communications route in a network. A mediatrace request is generated for the communications route. Responses to the mediatrace request are received from along the communications route. The hop-by-hop latency is passively measured, from the responses, with one-way delay along the communications route in the network.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2014Date of Patent: April 2, 2019Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Aamer Akhter, Plamen Nedeltchev, Carlos M. Patent number: 9813300Abstract: In one implementation, performance statistics for a provider network are compiled and delivered outside of the provider network. The provider network includes a media trace proxy server that receives a media trace query for a media stream of a customer edge network device. The media trace proxy server initiates a route discovery process on the provider network in response to the request or in response to at least one network device in the provider network being nonresponsive to similar types of media trace queries. The media trace proxy server collects performance statistics from the at least one network device and forwards the performance statistics of the at least one network device to the customer edge network device. The performance statistics may include only those statistics authorized by a subscription level or administrative region of the customer edge network device.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2012Date of Patent: November 7, 2017Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Eric Yu, Michael O'Brien, Aamer Akhter, Salman Asadullah

Patent number: 9787593Abstract: A method is disclosed for transmitting system management requests to computer systems along a network path using a network control protocol, such as RSVP. For example, an originating node may send a single system management request along a path to a destination node using a network control protocol. Each computer system along the network path may analyze the network control protocol message to determine whether the message contains a system management request. If a system management request is found in the message, the computer system may perform the system management function identified in the request, and respond to it.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2015Date of Patent: October 10, 2017Assignee: Cicsco Technology, Inc.Inventors: L. Alexander Clemm, Yuquan Jiang, Aamer Akhter, Steve Chang, Shyyunn Sheran Lin

Patent number: 8837300Abstract: In one embodiment, a head-end node of a tunnel, relative to a tail-end node, receives a trace request, and in response, generates an out-of-tunnel trace request based on the trace-request. The trace request is transmitted in-tunnel to the tail-end node, while also transmitting the out-of-tunnel trace request to at least one subsequent node. The head-end node may then receive a trace response from the tail-end node based on the in-tunnel trace request, as well as a trace response from each of the subsequent nodes based on the out-of-tunnel trace request.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2012Date of Patent: September 16, 2014Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Plamen Nedeltchev, Aamer Akhter

Patent number: 8515079Abstract: In one embodiment, a rekey distribution process transmits, from a key server, a multicast probe message intended to be received by at least one group member device. The rekey distribution process also receives, at the key server, an acknowledgement message from each group member device that received the multicast probe message. In turn, the rekey distribution process transmits, from the key server, a multicast rekey data message intended to be received by each group member device from which the key server received an acknowledgment message. Furthermore, the rekey distribution process transmits, from the key server, a unicast rekey data message to each group member device from which the key server did not receive an acknowledgment message.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2007Date of Patent: August 20, 2013Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Rajiv Asati, Mohamed Khalid, Aamer Akhter, Brian Weis, Shashi Sastry

Patent number: 8503453Abstract: In one embodiment, a QoS manager process that receives, at an EzVPN server device, connection speed data from an EzVPN client device. In addition, the QoS manager process processes, at the EzVPN server device, the connection speed data to determine a QoS policy for a communications session between the EzVPN client device and the EzVPN server device. Furthermore, the QoS manager process applies, at the EzVPN server device, the QoS policy to the communications session between the EzVPN client device and the EzVPN server device as determined by the processing of the connection speed data.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2006Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Rajiv Asati, Mohamed Khalid, Aamer Akhter, Pratima Sethi

Patent number: 7987506Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for dynamically updating a routing table in a virtual private network including a concentrator with a routing table and one or more security associations is provided. A change is identified in the virtual private network, and related network information is also identified. A notification update message is created, including (i) a type of change to be made to the routing table based on to the identified change and (ii) the related network information. The notification update message is sent to the concentrator, which updates the routing table according to the notification update message. During the updating of the routing table of the concentrator, current security associations of the virtual private network tunnel are maintained.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2006Date of Patent: July 26, 2011Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Mohamed Khalid, Rajiv Asati, Shashidhar P. Patent number: 7944854Abstract: A method for IP Security within Multi-Topology Routing is disclosed. Disclosed methods may also include IKE extensions. A route eligible for IPSec protection is injected into a topology routing table. Network traffic can then be protected in accordance with a security session, such as an IPSec session, between a first network node and a second network node and forwarded through a selected topology to take advantage of the service-differentiation capabilities of MTR.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2008Date of Patent: May 17, 2011Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Aamer Akhter, Manikchand Roopchand Bafna, Rajiv Asati, Mohamed Khalid

Patent number: 7849490Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for providing scalability for channel change requests in a Switched Digital Video system is presented. A request for a channel change is received. A determination is made regarding whether a channel requested by the request for a channel change is currently being provided to the settop box. When the channel requested by the request for a channel change is being provided to the settop box then the request for a channel change is buffered for transmission at a later time. When the channel requested by the request for a channel change is not being provided to the settop box then the request for a channel change is immediately sent to an SDV server in communication with the settop box.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2007Date of Patent: December 7, 2010Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventor: Aamer Akhter
