  • Publication number: 20110282999
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided to manage the assignment transmission resource of forward and reserve link that is assigned to transmitting entity for a period of time. An indication of a gap is provided whenever the transmitting entity is not transmitting actual data packets (e.g. whole or part of intended data or content), yet the transmitting entity is to maintain the assignment of the allocated resource. For example, an erasure signature packet comprising a first data pattern is transmitted on the assigned resource when there is no actual data to transmit on the assigned resource.

  • Patent number: 8027372
Abstract: Each base station transmits a TDM pilot 1 having multiple instances of a pilot-1 sequence generated with a PN1 sequence and a TDM pilot 2 having at least one instance of a pilot-2 sequence generated with a PN2 sequence. Each base station is assigned a specific PN2 sequence that uniquely identifies that base station. A terminal uses TDM pilot 1 to detect for the presence of a signal and uses TDM pilot 2 to identify base stations and obtain accurate timing. For signal detection, the terminal performs delayed correlation on received samples and determines whether a signal is present. If a signal is detected, the terminal performs direct correlation on the received samples with PN1 sequences for K1 different time offsets and identifies K2 strongest TDM pilot 1 instances. For time synchronization, the terminal performs direct correlation on the received samples with PN2 sequences to detect for TDM pilot 2.

  • Publication number: 20110216704
Abstract: Enhanced frequency division multiple access (EFDMA) is a multiplexing scheme that sends modulation symbols in the time domain and achieves a lower PAPR than OFDM. An EFDMA symbol occupies multiple subband groups that are spaced apart in a frequency band, with each subband group containing multiple adjacent subbands. To generate an EFDMA symbol, multiple modulation symbols are mapped onto a first sequence of symbols. A transform (e.g., a DFT) is performed on the first sequence to obtain a second sequence of values. The values in the second sequence corresponding to the subbands used for the EFDMA symbol are retained, and the remaining values are zeroed out to obtain a third sequence of values. An inverse transform (e.g., an IDFT) is performed on the third sequence to obtain a fourth sequence of samples. A phase ramp may be applied on the fourth sequence, and a cyclic prefix is appended to form the EFDMA symbol.

  • Patent number: 8014331
Abstract: Method and apparatus that provide for broadcast multicast services in an ultra mobile broadband network are disclosed. A broadcast transmission structure provides for efficient indexing of subbands reserved for BCMCS. Transmissions on the logical channels are segmented into error control blocks beginning with zero or one MAC packet received by a MAC layer. A transmitting entity appends parameters relating to content change within a next ultraframe at end of every broadcast packet that is not a stuffing packet. A mapping message of multiple Physical Layer groups addresses a single logical channel when SFN (Single Frequency Network) coverage of an associated subband group is different from SFN coverage of the logical channel.

  • Patent number: 7966033
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate serving sector directed transmit power control in a wireless communication environment. Under certain conditions, an access point can have better data with which to determine appropriate power levels than an individual terminal. Accordingly, an access point can transmit power control information to one or more terminals supported by the access point overriding normal power determination procedures. In particular, power control information can be included within an assignment message that designates resources (e.g., frequency, time) assigned to a terminal. Power control information can be based upon SNR, quality of service requirements, interference information, any other relevant information or any combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 7957327
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate providing time-division duplexed beam-forming support in traditionally non-time-division duplexed wireless systems, such as an OFDMA system, a WCDMA system, etc. According to an aspect, a base station can analyze pilot information, such as a portion of bandwidth over which a user device is transmitting, and can transmit on the downlink using pre-hopped portion of bandwidth utilized by the user device on the preceding reverse link time slot. The base station can additionally transmit bandwidth segment reassignments to the user device to facilitate bandwidth segment hopping between user devices served by the base station. Additionally, the base station can instruct the user device to provide on-demand pilot information to resolve ambiguity related thereto.

  • Publication number: 20110122838
Abstract: Techniques for transmitting configurable pilots in a wireless communication system are described. The placement of pilots is determined based on an assignment of resources for transmission. Different placements of pilots are used for different assignments of resources. The assignment may be for one or more frames and/or one or more H-ARQ interlaces. The placement of pilot(s) in each frame or H-ARQ interlace may be determined based on the placement of pilot(s) in prior frame(s) or H-ARQ interlace(s). Pilots are sent at time and frequency locations determined by the placement of the pilots. Each pilot may be sent on one or more subcarriers in one or more symbol periods. The pilots may be TDM pilots and/or some other type of pilot. The pilots may be sent using IFDMA, LFDMA, EFDMA, OFDMA, or some other multiplexing scheme.
