  • Publication number: 20170056995
Abstract: A method for interconnecting multiple components of a head-gimbal assembly with a solder joint, including the steps of positioning a first component adjacent to a second component to provide a connection area between the first and second components, dispensing a solder sphere to a capillary tube comprising tapered walls, wherein the capillary tube is positioned with an exit orifice above the connection area between the first and second components, pressurizing the capillary tube until a predetermined pressure is reached, applying a first laser pulse to the solder sphere to provide a level of thermal energy to liquefy the solder sphere until it falls from the exit orifice toward the connection area between the first and second components, detecting the movement of the liquefied solder sphere after it has exited the exit orifice of the capillary tube, and applying a second laser pulse to reflow the solder sphere to create the solder joint between the first and second components.

  • Patent number: 9048521
Abstract: A broadband waveguide incorporates various reflection suppression techniques to reduce reflections in signals communicated thereby. The waveguide includes one or more filaments that each include a first and second end. A first matrix may be configured proximate the first end(s) while a second matrix may be configured proximate an intermediate location between the first and second ends. A damping material may cover a portion of the filament(s) that extends from the second matrix to the second end(s) (including the second end(s) themselves) and/or the second end(s) of the filament(s) is/are shaped to at least partially suppress reflections of the signal therefrom. When configured with multiple filaments, at least two of the filaments may have differing lengths that extend from the second matrix and also operate to at least partially suppress reflections of a signal.

  • Publication number: 20050093299
Abstract: An improved tapping sleeve includes a first sleeve member having an outlet aperture, a second sleeve member, and a unitary gasket. An outlet retaining ring is positioned around the outlet aperture. A pair of end retaining lips are positioned on inner surfaces of the first and second sleeve members at opposing ends of the sleeve members. The gasket includes a gasket outlet having a pair of tapered surfaces on opposing longitudinal sides of the gasket outlet. The gasket, when positioned on a pipe in an un-stretched, uncompressed position subtends an arc of less than 360 degrees, creating a gap in the gasket. As the first and second sleeve members are connected, the outlet retaining lip engages armor members on the gasket, thereby circumferentially stretching the gasket and closing the gap. The tapered surfaces and the outlet retaining lip prevent excessive gasket flow into the outlet aperture.

  • Patent number: 5010553
Abstract: A method of operating a high speed, error-free data transmission system in a noisy medium comprises compressing data determined to be compressible, forward error correcting the data and interleaving the data in a bit matrix memory to enhance the forward error correction. Digital information packets are formulated including a header bearing a packet number, the total packet byte count, any packet number resend request, the data byte count of the actual data and a CRC. The digital information packet is loaded onto a transmitter carousel having a fixed number of sectors. The receiver receives the data, requests resend of any packet (by number) that is defective, error corrects if necessary and sequentially loads the packet onto a receiver carousel. Packets or sequential packet groups are removed from the carousel, selectively decompressed and the data words extracted and sent to the output.
