Publication number: 20160251820Abstract: A coupler for detachably coupling to a work tool includes a first coupling member connected with an arm of an equipment. The first coupling member includes a first pair of actuators. A second coupling member connected with a link of the arm includes a second pair of actuators. A plate member is adapted to couple with each of the first coupling member and the second coupling member. The plate member includes a connecting member to engage with the work tool.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 8, 2016Publication date: September 1, 2016Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: SARAVANAN VARADHARAJ ANTHIPAGULU, Aaron Dean Kovar, Tomasz Zablocki, Antonius Theodorus Franciscus van Koningsbruggge, Christian Breu

Patent number: 9194098Abstract: A stop system may include: a first member; a second member movable with respect to the first member, the first and second members being different parts of a common machine; a body including a boss defining a hole; a base plate at least one of: attached to and part of, the body on the side of the body opposite of the boss, the body and base plate forming a shoe; and a fastener extending through the hole in the boss thereby pivotally attaching the body to one of the first and second member. A method of providing a stop for stopping a thumb against a stick is also described.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2012Date of Patent: November 24, 2015Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Ryan Patrick Shea, Aaron Dean Kovar

Patent number: 9194099Abstract: An implement system for a machine having a stick member with a nose end and a mounting bracket is disclosed. The implement system includes a thumb pivotally connected to the nose end of the stick member, and a thumb actuator operatively connected between the mounting bracket of the stick member and the thumb to move the thumb between a fully retracted position and a fully extended position. The implement system has one or more of an RTK Factor, a TP Ratio and an ITO Ratio having values within ranges that allow installation of the implement system with the thumb actuator connected the thumb either directly or by a linkage assembly without changing the position of the mounting bracket on the stick member.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2013Date of Patent: November 24, 2015Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Ryan Patrick Shea, Aaron Dean Kovar

Publication number: 20150204047Abstract: A counteracting thumb for an implement of a machine may include first and second structure support plates each having first and second planar portions connected by an intermediate curved portion to orient the planar portions at an obtuse angle relative to each other. A first end edge of the first plate may be connected to an inner surface of the second plate proximate a first end edge of the second plate, and second end edge of the second plate may be connected to an inner surface of the first plate proximate a second end edge of the first plate. Side plates of the thumb may be connected to an outer surface of the first plate, and teeth of the thumb may be connected to an outer surface of the second plate.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2015Publication date: July 23, 2015Applicant: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Aaron Dean Kovar, Don Harlen Kleiner, Ryan Patrick Shea

Publication number: 20140102243Abstract: An adjusting system is provided. The adjusting system includes: a slug defining an eccentric hole; and a locking structure defined by an outer circumference of the slug, the locking structure dimensioned and configured to lock the slug in a rotational orientation when the slug is placed in a hole having a corresponding locking feature, the locking structure configured to permit the slug to be placed in the corresponding hole in at least two different angular orientations and lock with the locking feature in the corresponding hole at each of the at least two different angular orientations. A method for adjusting stop shoes is also provided. The method includes: rotating a slug to a desired angular orientation; inserting the slug into a hole; locking the slug to a particular angular orientation with locking structure attached to both of the slug and the hole; and securing a stop shoe to the slug.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 11, 2012Publication date: April 17, 2014Applicant: CATERPILLAR INC.Inventors: Ryan Patrick Shea, Aaron Dean Kovar
