  • Patent number: 10820711
Abstract: A high-low bed having a substantially rectangular upper surface is variably dynamically adjustable in elevation above a floor by action of a substantially planar substantially rectilinear upper frame presenting an upper surface to the bed, four stanchions of selectable length boltable at each of four opposing points under the upper frame, four swing arms hinge-connected at their first ends to the bottom of each of the four stanchions and at their second ends to wheels resting upon the floor. One or more motors move the swing arms about their hinged connection to the stanchions to variously elevate the upper surface of the bed above the floor. Nonetheless to its large height adjustment range, the entire bed breaks down to be shipped in two standard freight shipping boxes.

  • Patent number: 10021989
Abstract: In an adjustable bed having juxtaposed between a mattress and a floor an articulated frame, and one or more wired motors operating on the articulated frame so that the mattress resting atop the frame is adjusted in contour, the articulated frame is modular, and ships in two or more modular frame sections each of which is sufficiently small so as to fit upon a standard shipping pallet of 48? by 48?. Moreover, and further, the two or more modular frame sections semi-permanently engage by sliding protrusions—preferably steel tubes—extending from spaced-parallel frame rails of a one section into a complimentary cavities of the frame rails—preferably steel tubes of square cross section—of a next frame section. This sliding assembly may be done by one adult man, without use of tools. The extensive contact between the telescoping members makes that the connection, and the modular adjustable bed itself, is suitably strong.

  • Publication number: 20100229309
Abstract: A mattress retainer for use with an adjustable bed having a rectilinear foot-region frame section with a planar upper surface substantially operates to “clip” this frame section, extending upwards at the foot of the adjustable bed to retain the mattress. Preferably made from a contiguous piece of bent metal, the mattress retainer (1) ships inverted in position on the foot-region frame section of a modular adjustable bed, and (2) is erected to operational position upon the bed by one person without use of tools.

  • Patent number: 6871507
Abstract: An apparatus is described for applying a fine mist of water to an air conditioner condenser coil for increasing the heat transfer thereof. A water source under normal utility pressure is tapped for flow into a reduced diameter tube supplying the apparatus. Said tube water is filtered and electrolysis protected by a magnesium element affixed to the tube and to the air conditioner structure. A metering valve used exclusively for metering small flows of liquid Freon-type refrigerant, is modified and adapted for exclusive use in metering water to the misters. It is conjoined with a temperature sensor bulb filled with expandable refrigerator coolant as a control initiator and which communicates with said valve via a sealed capillary tube to a chamber and diaphragm means. As the sensor bulb is located at the heat exchanger coil, this expansion valve meters water flow control in accordance with the temperature of the heat exchanger, without the use of electricity or dependence on fan power.

  • Patent number: 5988264
Abstract: A system for cooling, heating and fire-protecting an enclosure or dwelling, consisting of six principal entities acting in cooperation. The first is an expansive system of wide, shallow ducting installed just outboard and against the innermost wall layers of the peripheral walls, ceiling and at times, the floor, thermally intimate but physically isolated from the interior volume of the enclosure. The second is an evaporatively-cooled air source, supplying the duct system, which cools the innermost wall layers and in turn, the interior volume, by radiation and convection. The third entity, being an encompassing layer of efficient insulation, just outboard of the ducting and within the enclosure, biasing the cooling and heating action to the interior volume. The fourth is a network of hot-water circulating tubes, lying within, or adjacent to said cooling ducts, and against the innermost wall layer, or inboard plate thereof.

  • Patent number: 5687437
Abstract: Various high-low bases including (i) a frame, and (ii) various lift mechanisms for supporting and for variably elevating the frame above a floor, fit completely under, and within the pedestal base, of a conventional contour bed. In one embodiment a motorized hydraulic drive mechanism variably controllably elevates the entire contour bed, including its pedestal base, in height above the floor, thereby to order to facilitate transfer of a user of the bed to and from a wheelchair, or the provision of care to the user who lies supine upon the bed. In another embodiment the lift mechanism is a motorized screw drive acting through cables to control lifting lever arms. In still another embodiment the screw drive of the lifting lever arms is direct. An upper surface of the contour bed is mechanically adjustable to contour a mattress that rests upon this upper surface independently of the hydraulic adjustment of the height of the bed.

  • Patent number: 5490298
Abstract: A high-low base including a lower frame member supported upon a floor, an upper frame member, and an elevation assembly for variably elevating the upper frame member in height above the lower frame member, fits completely under, and within the pedestal base, of a conventional contour bed. A motorized drive mechanism variably controllably elevates the upper frame member in height above the lower frame member, and the entire contour bed including its pedestal base in height above the floor, in order to facilitate transfer of a bed user to and from a wheelchair, or the provision of care to the user supine within the bed. An upper surface of the contour bed is adjustable to contour a mattress that rests upon this upper surface mechanically and electrically independently of the adjustment of the height of the bed.
