Abstract: A system and method for manufacturing polymer mat utilizes reduced capacity spinning pumps. The system includes at least one extruder, at least one pump receiving an extruded polymer, and a plurality of spinning packs each having a plate with multiple orifices. One or more of the spinning packs has a lesser number of orifices than the remaining spinning packs. Therefore, when extruding fibers to form polymer mats, a less dense amount of fibers are disposed along selected locations (e.g., laterally marginal areas if the mat). By this system and associated method, the amount of trim generated in the production of polymer fibers may be reduced. This results in increased efficiency in the fabrication of spunbond or woven mats.

Abstract: A automated membrane finishing winder improves the process for generating waterproofing membrane rolls. The winder is fed a membrane through a plurality of motorized pull rolls. A mandrel adapted to receive a pair of cores is positioned proximal to an output region of a finishing product winding machine. An adhesive applicator traverses the width of the cores automatically to apply an adhesive to the cores, and the automated finishing product winding machine guides a leading edge of adjacent membrane sections to the adhesive strip on the respective core to start rolls of waterproofing membrane.
